No, Scotty Kilmer is about obtaining as many views as possible. Many of Scotty Kilmer’s videos are sensationalized, purposely meant as click bait.
I'm willing to bet you were a Pat Goss fan.
It's like Bob Ross of auto repair. I really enjoy your channel. As the owner of 3 Toyotas, I'm learning why these vehicles run for so long, and how to take care of them.
My '98 Camry 2.2L 4cy. engine has the oil filter on the upper front side of the block: It's easy to get to (no need to get under the engine) but can be messy since unspinning it keeps the open bottom facing bottom: Wait for the engine oil to drain before taking it off.
Great job 👏
I used fram oil filters for years…..then switched to the toyota filter. My oil seems extremely dark when I change it now. I change oil around 3500 miles religiously. I always make sure my air filter is clean. Why would my oil be so dark?
The advertised benefit to the spin on oil adapters is the spin on filters have anti-drain back valves reducing dry starts. What is worse? Frequent dry starts or oil pressure change causing VVT timing issues? My 22 Explorer has cartridge and the oil system has to be re-pressurized anytime it sits for more than roughly 15 minutes… the dry starts scare me more over time, but I’m curious what his thoughts are??
Should I change my vvti filters or can they be cleaned?
I couldn’t get to Toyota and used a wix synthetic filter for my 1grfe. Should I get a Toyota filter instead? 2007 taco
Is there a backflow in canister filter?
Do you recommend prefilling the oil filter on a 4Runner?
I have the plastic one and the bypass is broke. Can I convert to the metal housing? I have a 2016 Camry 2arfe
Really enjoy your channel keep up the good work God bless.
Well damn, looks I’ll be buying a OEM filter housing for my 5th gen 4Runner. I bought a metal filter housing from Toyota and swapped the internals. I’ll probably be ok, but for peace of mind, it’s priceless.
If you really want the metal oil filter housing then simply swap out the center tube of your plastic one to your new metal one, problem solved!!
toyota brand oil filters are surprisingly low priced
Does the original plastic one has a mark Toyota on it? Because I used to take mine to the dealership to make the oil change, and that one that it has doesn't say Anything?
Purolator invented the cannister oil filter in 1923 and WIX invented the spinon filter in 1954. Toyota chose to use antique system to FORCE DEALER SERVICE. I lost my Sienna engine shortly after a "quick change" monkey screwed up this cannister CRAP…..NEVER BUY AUTO WITH THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT
i started doing my own oil changes on my tacoma after my warranty and free oil changings were over. Toyota techs had completely stripped all but one of the tabs/flanges on the plastic filter housing, ended up switching to a metal one and closely follow torque specs. hoping it stays issue free.
With regards to oil pressure, tell us how 0W16 is used in America and 5w30 used in other countries? Same vehicle and drastically different oil recommendations ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Mr. Ahmad!.. i have never seen you passionate about the after market part! 😂.. Thank you for what you do!
I prefer the spin-on, and my 2014 Tacoma has the filter located in a great place. Easy to access and I can change it in a couple of minutes. I had a Tundra with a paper filter that went inside the block. The filter itself worked fine, but it was a lot more work to change out that filter than a spin-on type. I had to drop a heavy skid plate just to get to the area of the block where the paper filter went in and I had to have a special tool to get it off.
New subscriber here thank you for your very informative videos and your peculiar attention to detail.
My ‘97 Tacoma 2.7l, takes a vertical mounted canister filter. I use the tallest available filter (almost double the height) that will spin onto the filter housing. Same circumference & thread pitch. Just way more filter media inside to capture the Carbon from the combustion process. Larger capacity filter. More Carbon captured by the filter. This also slightly increases the amount of Oil!
PRO TIP: When using the Spin-On Filters. MARK THE MILEAGE & DATE ON THE FILTER WITH A PAINT PEN or Permanent Marker. That way, if the windshield sticker gets removed. You’ll still know when it’s time for your 3,000 mile Oil Change.
I had my local Toyota dealership preform the first three oil changes on my Highlander before deciding to do my on, as I have to all previous cars. The recommended torque installing the oil filter housing is 25 ft.lbs. Removing for the first time (by me) required over 60. Never to return to this dealership!! Really enjoyed this video/information.
Canister, plastic filter, 18ftlb to tighten right? And the piece at the bottom used to drain the filter, tighten to 10ftlbs?
This dude just makes shit up so he can make videos and get views.
I really appreciate your channel and how you present things. I have heard that Toyota oil filters are not very efficient in order to increase flow? One channel has a very sophisticated flow/filter lab. He rated Toyota as one of the worst for filtering. Is that true, or do you think maybe he had a fake/counterfeit. I have a new '25Camry XLE I bought last week and I want to take good care of it from the start. I may end up doing my own oil changes.
I tried to save some money on aftermarket parts for my motorcycle and ended up spending more than just using OEM parts from the dealer. Oh well, lessons learned. Now I'm all about using MFG parts. The quality and specifications are much better and most times work the first time.
Thank You so much for posting this vid! … Clears up a lot of questions & concerns for me
I did something a lot of 4runner owners do and switch to the metal filter canister. It requires changing the stand pipe from the original plastic filter housing. It can be done using care by bending the locking tabs you referenced. I will inspect it when I do my next oil/filter change. For some reason the plastic filter housings can be a pain to unscrew. Many times they are overtightened. This is the main reason I think guys do this modification to the metal filter housing. I respect your opinion though.
About 25 years ago, I remember Toyota started to make filters for my 1984 Corolla much smaller than the original ones.
GM made the same for my '65 Buick. Now GM doesn't even make the filters for some of their own older cars and some of the cheaper replacement brands also make them much smaller again! They still thread in and seal but… So we're stuck with buying expensive filters at the auto parts store! BTW, does Toyota still make oil filters for it's 1965 models?!
