Now before we start a Chevy vs Toyota war in the comment section let it be known I am a Toyota fan boy haha. I was just poking fun at our good friend Scotty for all the love he gives Toyota. I can't complain to much about my Tundra. After all, this is the first "repair." Not to mention most 2013 GM's I can't put on my lift because the frames snap in half or crush from all the rust 😂 There….shots fired! 💥💥💥
Seriously though😐 ….calm down they're all junk when they're broke
Ah the coveted nys hott wrench ! Haven't used mine since I moved to SC.
Very good eric very good
I think your personality is as great as your car crafting skills. Very enjoyable to watch. What I call car crafting/fabricating is becoming a lost art. So many youngsters just want everything to bolt on and if it doesn't or fit exactly they are lost. I started working on cars more than 50 years ago in my early teens. There was no internet or videos showing how to do things. I had a Chilton's book and we just figured out how to do things. I will bet as you age you'll find yourself using gloves more and more just as I have, Really helps with the cuts and burns.
As for the torch I just think people are skittish about using “fire” around oil and gasoline.
I am surprised your camera endures the brightness of the Welding brightness!
yeah rockauto have some good parts its just the shipping that gets ya
Oxyfuel torch for cutting and wire-feed for welding – a perfect combination for automotive work.
The references to other mechanics was great 🤣
You could have gone to Midas and told them "i am not going to pay a lot for this Muffler"
When you use a torch it changes the properties of the metal you cut or heat up. These changes affect the corrosion resistance of metal
Is Toyota running ford 9" rears 😀
Torch explanation: Everyone who says they are too expensive either has never owned one or never works car older then 3 years old. I used to be that guy, until I borrowed a set from a buddy and didn't want to give it back lol. I now own 3. They save so much time, they will pay for themselves and even make money. I'd be lost without it.
On the Torch issue, Eric, I grew up in Buffalo Area, and a lot of the High schools had basic shop class. In there i learned about heat treating, and torch flames, etc. Since I got my degree, i basically have been in the south and California for most of last 30 years and get to see the underside of a lot of southern vehicles. Even though I also have my own shop in SC, I sometimes still use a torch for exhaust stuff. Its just too burnt up, not salt, to get off with just a wrench. It seems the threads are exposed to a little bit of moisture for so many years that they get thinner and then the impact just shears them off. Surprisingly some stuff on Southern Exhaust does come off with an Impact. I dont think the shop classes exist much in the Southern school system especially more recently as the skilled trades have kind of went away in the schools. Ive also used my torches for Silver soldering on AC systems on houses(copper) now that is a necessity in the south and it costs way way too much to have someone do that work. I also have done brazing of steel panels when i do body work. One more use: getting studs out of exhaust manifolds, now that is where the torch really earns its value rating. That happens North or south. Good Day.
scotty is full of sh!t.
Great work, I'm a long time fan of your channel (and ole flailing hands Scotty- uses his hands more than an Italian….I should know). You've always got a good mix of common sense, experience , sarcasm and wit. I was perusing your store locking for a coffee mug, I didn’t see one so if you sell them plz lemme know I'd love to support your channel, if not I'm down for a t-shirt regardless. Keep up the hard work and stay away from them squirters, they'll git ya!
A cutting torch is a must have piece of equipment for any shop. In reality a cutting torch is not that expensive. Start up cost is not any worse than buying a mig welder. My barn shop has acetylene oxygen torch. I own my tanks and all I do is go in and exchange them. Normally that's about once every two years. Sure there's gauges, hoses, cutting and brazing tips. The tips last a long time, gauges may have to be rebuilt after 10 years. The exchange rate on the tanks is like 50 on acetylene and 60 on oxygen.
If people do not like what you are using, do not look! After all you are doing the work they aren't!!??
Really appreciate the information and advice you share. Wondered if you might provide some insights into your welder setup for exhaust work and how you ensure a continuous, leak-free bead on the top side of an exhaust pipe. Thanks.
Great job troubleshooting.
Problem with working on your own stuff instead of getting paid you’re pulling your money out of your pocket, ouch
Everybody’s jealous that they do not have the hot wrench at their disposal
Anybody in the forums would tell ya that Dirty Deeds makes the best mufflers for our trucks. You'll pay OEM prices but they'll be on there for years. You can get fart can stupid loud all the way down to whisper quiet.
So ya know later Eric…..
I've been an auto technician for 115 years and I've never seen anyone weld so horribly. Rev up your engines
Part # of flanges and gaskets
Cutting torch is the tool of choice in the rust belt unless you are in a very dry tall grass field fagetaboutit
Excellent !
Rock Auto to the rescue. I've had good luck with their parts. I have used them for decades.
It was probably Rainman! He likes welding bolts on every stud! He mentioned you the other day! He has really surprised me lately on his quality of work! Removed his whole interior to install a new headliner in his truck! Unbelievable
scotty is no mechanic
I grew up in the UK (salt Island) and moved to Non salt Oregon in '96. I must admit I don't miss the rust one bit. I scrapped a '97 Dodge Neon a couple of years back and there was not a spec of rust on the shell anywhere. I do however own a cutting torch that I bought from Harbor Freight for $50. Even though I have never used it on a car I must say its so dang useful to have some serious heat when you need it..:).
I just bought walker catalytic converter, should i send it back?N besides dealer what else is there?Car is 12 years old.
Up north you need the hot wrench lol
You were just checking to make sure you had proper heat transfer and to get me laughing
If Liquid Axe gets result…
Then Liquid Axe it is! 🔥
Toyota's aren't maintenance free. They will fail if neglected.
It's not dented! It's dropped forged!
Strong words to acuse Scotty of lying.. It seems you hate him, Eric. This guy Scotty must be really good.. Judge not lest you be judged yourself.
Toyota Tundra is the only pick up truck made 100% in USA.
You Crack me up Eric. I luv when you use the vic. Burn baby burn.
Scotty blasphemy, I can’t believe it! 😂😂😂
Every car has a potential to fail. Where is the question.
I would say all cars are trash nowadays
Very informative! Thank you very much!
