Nice video. Now you can just swap the 6hp with a reliable, fast and efficient 8hp and you just get a great gearbox with the superb m57.
Actually I have and e46 equipped with an m47 and I am considering myself to do this swap.
Think diesel gate kinda of sunk the market. It’s very sad because diesel equipped vehicles are very impressive to own and operate. I own a stock 2013 Cayenne diesel that makes 26-27 mpg in the city at 5500 lbs gross. My M4 can just eke out 24 mpg. I’m a believer in diesel powered vehicles. I would rather have more diesel vehicles then EV’s.
I had a 535d loved it but now I have a 335i with the n54
N54 for the win well better than a diesel
Great video, you’re totally right about the M57 engine. Im in the US, What about the M57Y engine? I have an X5 35D 2011, all deletes have been done, active and passive def tanks are now methanol injection, Engine tune, trans tune, it’s an absolute rocket ship, with 35mpg. No idea what real power numbers are, but it seems happier without all the restrictions. Only problems I’ve ever had with it, are it eats water pumps even with upgraded metal impeller, and also thermostats. I’ve never seen a mechanical water pump actually explode, and eat both belts, several times. It seems they only can go for about 30k miles. I own several BMW’s and this one is my daily, commuter, about 1000mi per week. 160k miles total, and still puts a smile on my face. Most reliable BMW I’ve ever owned. It sounds like an old 7.3, but still luxurious inside, just keep the windows up at red lights, she got a lil coal outback.
The passat around 2017 was offered with a twin turbo 2l tdi and it is hella good. Very powerful. Standard 240 hp with 500 nm torque, tune it and you get 305 hp.
Volvo's Euro3 2.4 D5 is a top diesel engine as well 👌
Honestly, the 335d not being available as a manual is enough reason to go with the 335i
The 35d engine in ul is standard with around 314bhp we also have 40d and 50d
Good engine, but loud and coarse like a tractor.
250k miles on my 530d and still going strong 💪💪
I will just say 2015 435d xdrive 470hp+ makes 3.0sec/100km/h
2015 335d xdrive 500hp+ 2.9sec/100km/h
If you want to tune the 335d to 400hp and more, you need to check the differential to. It will break soon or later.
Sounds like this might just be the Cockford-Ollie to power a jet boat.
Hmmmmmm…..
I've got one in an e46 with 473,000 miles and it's still absolutely perfect. 6 speed manual 204hp.
garbage..trash..no way never 😂😂😂😂
Much more reliable than the crappy mercedes 320 cdi engine
My 335d = 375hp, 705tq
I have an X5 2006 e53 with a M57, its simply a beast (350k km) averages 41 ~ 43 km/gal on highway …. egr delete & intake flap delete, added a extra oil cooler radiator and preparing to change to a cp3 pump (still have some leaks of oil here and there… normal on a BMW), but it still rocks, Im not a mechanic, but im the one that services the engine so far (6 years) .
Replace 6HP with a modern 8HP with Turbolamik TCU and you're all set
n57 series is more overall powerfull
I have an E46 330D which has the M57D30 engine, and I can tell you it is an amazing piece. It has been tuned from 184 to around 250HP (I bought it tuned, don't know the power figure exactly) and whilst being quite quick it still manages to get me about 50mpg on the highway. Amazing….. And realiability, it's great. Only the automatic transmission is kinda bad because E46 diesels had a GM trans instead of the more reliable ZF trannies which I kinda wanted hahah
Here in the old world, I'm driving a 530d M-Sport, with an 8-speed dual -clutch box from standard. Out of the box, these will get to 60 in under six seconds. I've had the engine and box remapped on mine, along with some other bits like egr and swirl flap delete. It now has heaps of torque, good like stink, but will still return over 50mpg (UK) on a run in quiet comfort. There ain't much better than that as an all round proposition imho.
The L322 Range Rover also used the M57, chipped and at 350.000km's doing just fine so far, great tow vehicle too
Had the 335d the twin turbo and sold after 2 years. 😢 the engine was great but the stuff around failed. 2 years and spent $3,000 on repairs. IT was a rocket.
Love my e92 335d
M57d30tu has 204 hp i have it in my e46 its awsome engine not fun as petrol but its reliable and economical. My combined consuption by my computer is 5.8 liters. For USA 204hp is not much but it pulls great 0-60 is under 7 seconds 🙂 i can overtake realy easily most of cars in eu and i have great mpg-s i can use it as daily and drive economical when i drive normaly and i can floor it and have fun. I waw allways against diesels but it has changed my mind, its realy fun car and solid engine curently i have 370k km on clock and it stills goes strong
Had an X5 35D. When the emissions systems failed I was faced with a choice. Chose delete, including the swirl flaps. Tuned the ECM mildly; turned the dyno at 364 hp and 590 ft/lbs at the wheels on a hot humid day. 25 mpg plus having all the fun I wanted. Can you say launch? Put 100k miles on in 4 years driving everywhere. And the sound?? Just awesome.
B57 diesel engine is modern day monster
Fun fact that stock manual transmission on e61 530d can handle 1000hp
Once you remap the zf6, it genuinely gets better then most modern gearboxes. So if you are looking for an automatic, its not actually a downside.
Been daily driving an e46 330d for the last 4 years and its time for me to get something different, how ever, i find it basically impossible to move away from bmw diesels.
For a dd car, its basically the perfect engine. Quiet, smooth, reliable and economical for every day use, yet still powerful and fun enough for when you feel like pushing it.
Been looking at various cars and e90 335d seems like the obvious choice for a direct upgrade (Only thing im torn on is moving to an auto, but thats more of a me problem).
Literally every alternative i look at (v8 s5, 350z, impreza wrx etc) both consume 2-3x more fuel well being noticeably slower (at least in a straight line).
Got a 2011 335d M Sport for sale if anyone interested…
take the m47 Vs n47….n47 found in modem BMW…made of chocolate
m47 found in the early E90 or or e46…. solid.
On paper and a video like this, the m57 335d may sound like the obvious choice, but it's actually a very subjective thing IMO. I hate the way diesels rev and have a lower rev limit. Hence why I chose a 335i
Wait till you meet the 2.9l Mercedes-Benz OM656. 700nm at 1200r/min, and 243kW. It can counter the rotation of the Earth, at idling speed.
i have M57 and it is money pit XDDDDDDDD
Emissions delete is not road legal if registered in an area with Emissions
My my neighbor has that car. Suped up and deleted, gets 60mpg.
Aww man… now u just increased the prices of any M57 car/suv lol. Thaaanks! Lol love my E70 M57.
Americas problem is that they're too protective of their home market to allow foreign competition enough exposure to raise the product standards and expectations of customers. The fact that gas is so cheap hasn't helped either as it provides no incentive to focus on fuel efficiency as many other parts of the world had to. The USAs 25 year rule is about to need a revamp soon as some of the cars japan and germany were making 20 years ago are advanced enough to compete with what the USA is still churning out today.
2tr-fe please
This is a great video however if interest and Europe will probably be one of the last places to reconnecting modify these vehicles Japan they're getting strict America they're getting strict if there wasn't this horrible missions on diesels these would be in n54 killers.
I wonder if I can fit it into my '89 bronco
E60 fuel is my kryptonite though. No flex fuel option. It’s a no for me dawg
