You remind me of my very first vehicle repair experience here in Wyoming, in 1978. December, and it was -35 F with 40-50 mph winds and I had to repair (replace) the starter on my old Chevrolet sedan. Just like you, I had to come inside for a warm-up every once in a while, just to avoid frostbite, but I got it done! That was memorable, but miserable!
Cold steel, cold hands, cold tools…
Nice job!
I changed the water pump on my Volvo in -25 C
Bush mechanic, money wrenching on broken junkers in the winter. Some people make good money with such skills.
My coldest repair was on a semi truck on the side of a country road -30c late at night. The air dryer froze open draining all air supply. I had to lie under the truck several times in strong winds and drifting snow. I had no parts to rig up a fix, so I hike in the blizzard to a single light in the distance. It was an old farmer who helped me with some plumbing fittings and drove me back to my truck. When I was done with the bare handed repair I was a lump of snow under the semi. I'm still cold just telling this story.
You can see how cold you are just in your face wow 🥶
Well that engine looks like a Volvo engine out of one of the older ones in the 1970s 71 /. 72 …is that a four-cylinder engine..
They put that starter in a super easy spot. My old 91 chevy truck is easy. But I had a old Ford mustang I put a starter in -40 c had to pull moter mount to get to it I'm no stranger to cold weather and working on cars and it's impossible to were gloves. The older cars fuel pump attached to engine is better than in the tank on new cars. I definitely liked the old way better. That's a super cool 4×4 you got there wish I had it in the states for bear baiting!
It's the kind of job I'd put off until summer!!
Grew up in Northern Europe but now living in Far North Queensland, Aus. Can't say I miss the cold!
Then again, good circulation is the key. I used to cycle 1 hour to work and get to the warehouse where all the other guys were clasping their frozen hands but by that time mine were toasty and stayed like that all day.
Thanks Lars
I love these little trucks, so simple and easy to work on, would love to own one but being in the states makes that hard lol.
Love watching the videos good to see you. Hope the family is doing well
Been there,done that…..good luck Buddy
Good to see the little guy running again! Stay warm.
Better you than me brother. Too true about the hands though. Only time of year my hands aren't cold is winter. Ha! Ha! Ha!
Never thought I'd enjoy watching someone work on a car. I am most definitely not a gear head.
Thank you Lars for a great dose of Normal amongst all the other bla blah blahing on yt.
Best Channel on YouTube..!
Lars, Hows the Rover/P-38 running in that cold?
Your definatly not Danish, from the accent, my guess is near Frankfurt, perhaps just north of it.
Watching you do this repair made me thank God that I have a shop to work in. Stay safe.
Merry Christmas to you Lars and your family!
I put a starter on my gmc diesel 6.2l in sub freezing weather and that was in Seattle. It was only a little below freezing. It was super awesome!
Even though I have the bell, and watch survival and camping videos. I haven't seen your videos in close to a year. Glad I remembered your channel name!
Just like hubbies "shop" …the lighting is awesome….the shop temperature not so much…lol
how is that 6×6 vehicle project going?
RoaR
Excellent!
Wow Lars… At minus 12*C I'm changing no starter or fuel pump without a Siberian fire next to the vehicle, let alone holding wrench with bare hands!
Nothing worse than doing that kind of work with bare hands! ouch!
The coldest car repair I did was replacing the timing chain on my 69 Chevelle. Middle of winter, sleet and snow. We had the car pulled up on the patio with a piece of plastic taped to the hood to keep the sleet off, as it was blowing in at an angle. Had to go inside to warm the hands and feet now and again.
Hi Lars! What model of vehicle is this?
It is seen to be colder, much faster as we get older, hahaha.
I hope the trains are still running get an extra moose to feed Boss. Hope the new house has a proper brick stove let us know how you are heating the new house
Cool video Lars 😁🤠
👍👍👍👍👍
Lars, with your building skills, you need a garage.
What happened to the triple axel project?
Soo … Lars, once the house has been completed, will you be allowed to build a heated and insulated motor vehicle workshop?
Be nice to that little wagon.. ! I have to work on a Pinzgauer 710k this year..(has been sitting for 20 years)..
Try a backhoe and a fire truck transmission removal at -40. While laying on the ground. That was a hell of a job. My gloves and tools kept sticking to my clothing and freezing in place on the vehicles. Took 12hrs to get both removed.
Russia is just like Canada
Even close to 0 degrees is not fun at all working Barehanded is not ideal.
They do make and I don't know if they're available in your region of the world hi dexterity cold weather gloves for working on mechanical equipment
I had to replace the starter in my truck not long ago it was not fun. The bolts did not want to budge I had to fight every one of them. Glad it was not to difficult for you. Thanks for sharing Lars
I love how simple/easy to fix these old Soviet vehicle’s are.👍🙌
