It's ones of these things where legislation is way behind the technology. I hope the UK and EU countries come together to make it possible because its such a huge waste of rare metals. But with Welsh labours push away from personal cars and anti driver policies in the national transport plan I fear what the future holds for those who enjoy cars and driving

what i find really interesting is that as a Tesla ev owner in France for the last 3 years my fully comprehensive insurance including full european breakdown cover costs me 354 euros so very little difference to what i was paying 3 years ago on my old diesel Honda, and so i would question if this is just a UK problem. also here in France their are lots of body repair shops that are Tesla approved and my experience after a mishap with a gate post was that the repairs were cost wise very similar to that of a similar repair i had on a VW Passat. really if insurance in France was much different for EVs then people here would simply refuse to buy them. Like wise i was amazed at how much people pay in the UK for new cars having just bought another New Tesla Model Y rwd here in France for 34k euros with the EU ecologial grant that makes a new Tesla the same price as a Ciroen C4 diesel, and my friend in the UK has paid 46000 pounds for the same car ie 53000 euros. I guess its as case of that if the people will pay then the companies will carry on charging what they like especially if the government is unprepared to help the british buying public to transition to electric cars. if the people voted with their wallets as we do in France then you too would see prices fall drastically as there is no way the French buying public would be adopting EVs in the numbers they are without EU ecological grants and the excellent cheap government sponsored charging infrastructure that we have.
When you understand that EVs are just a temporary tool in banning us from any travel with any type of vehicle, it all makes sense.
I have a 'self-charging' hybrid and it runs on EV in built up areas, but without any of the issues. It's a bit more to insure than my old car, but not by much.

Electric cars have so many drawbacks and dangers that I won't even sit in one let alone buy or drive one and I'm an electrical engineer. Naive people with good intentions didn't know what the f*ck they were doing. It's being pushed by politicians who know nothing.

The cost of recovering, let alone repairing an EV is extortionate and now all you lot who were preaching about saving the planet get to feel the effects of your interference in the system.
The cost of repairing my car should be about the same as inflation parts and labour are the same today as they were 10 years ago factoring inflation, so this EV higher tech cause makes perfect sense, of course if they just charged significantly more to cover the EVs then no one would buy them.
Ultimately people need to stop messing about with the system because we are all being forced to pay for it
Get rid of those toxic batteries, go the "salt" battery route instead.

Well given fact that manufacturers not designing fossil fuel cars anymore then we are all going to have a problem . All premiums gone up as cost of living gone up in UK. Let’s not forget the cost to planet and by default our pockets of doing fuck all. If people cant afford cars then maybe they need to insist their local MPs sort out high quality frequent public transport or get themselves an electric cycle 😊
There's almost no difference in insurance of EVs to ICEVs in Australia.
And there's no difference in cost to repair either. All cars get written off easily these days.
