FRANKFURT — Volkswagen was hit by a significant IT outage on Wednesday, Europe’s high carmaker mentioned, including that manufacturing on the carmaker’s namesake model in Germany had come to a halt in consequence.
Volkswagen mentioned that the entire group, which incorporates the Porsche AG and Audi manufacturers, was affected.
A spokesperson for Audi confirmed that manufacturing on the division had been impacted, too, including it was at present being analyzed to what extent.
Porsche AG had no instant remark.
Volkswagen mentioned there had been an unspecified “IT malfunction of community elements” on the carmaker’s website in Wolfsburg, its world headquarters.
“The fault has been current since 12:30 p.m. (CET) and is at present being analyzed. There are implications for vehicle-producing crops,” the group mentioned.
“In accordance with present analyses, an exterior assault is unlikely to be the reason for the system malfunction,” Volkswagen mentioned, including that efforts to repair the issue have been of the best precedence and effectively beneath means.
