A friend who lives in a cold climate (Ottowa) owns a Mercedes EV. He tells me the range is less in the winter because of low battery temperature. It has a battery heater, which helps. And when he runs the cabin heater it lowers it even more. He likes the car, but admits it would not be practical for much beyond local driving.
My electric bike claim is 70km range, it can't go over 50km

Meanwhile in Southeast Michigan, DTE: "We are increasing the cost of electricity to 20 cents per kilowatt with our new time of day plan from 3-7 pm and our off peak cost to 16 cents a kilowatt from April to October. Turn off your AC and pool pump to conserve electricity and do expensive and unnecessary renovations to save money that we end up collecting anyway. We are working to improve the grid for more reliable access to electricity for southeast Michigan. Me: "Big Fat liars! They've been Telling us about improving the grid for over a decade and nothing was done with outages still occurring as frequently as they did a decade ago and I'm not suffering a 85 degree house just for their time of use plan. I would rather just get a whole house generator to run my AC and pool pump on my trusty natural gas and go swimming. Even gas from Consumer's Energy with their analog meters isn't as much as DTE's Electric bill and I have a Gas Furnace for heating in the winter and will never get an electric one which breaks easily. I will try to keep my gas powered cars running as long as possible along with my natural gas furnace to have reliable vehicles along with heating in the winter."

My Reaction: "False Advertising and DTE is a bunch of Circus Clowns as they overcharge all the time by dialing up smart meter readings above actual readings during the peak hours."
Conclusion: After DTE Increased our Rates in Southeast Michigan, I will never ever buy an electric car and If they are mandated, I will construct an electric bicycle with pedals to get across town and use as my new vehicle which can make me healthier than driving an electric car as I will be exercising more often. If I have to go somewhere that I cannot get to by bicycle, I will utilize ride sharing services. If you still have those old fashioned analog meters, keep them as the surcharges are not as much as smart meters without them. Make sure to tell your smart meter installer who attempts to remove your analog meter to put you down as refusal. if they threaten you with shutoffs, ignore them and take legal action if they do disconnect your power for refusing a smart meter as that cannot be done unless you didn't pay your bills or end up stealing electricity from the utility company which is dangerous and Illegal in all states. Just like how the dealers cannot repossess a gas powered car for an EV without your consent and dealers cannot repossess them unless you didn't pay the bills on that particular car. Keep your gas engines running as long as possible and keep up with the preventative maintenance.

Scotty you don’t understand how an electric motor works.. A gearbox isn’t needed and won’t help. The range decreases at speed because of air resistance.
What do you mean future? As far as I can see they never had a real future anyway.

The magnetic strength of the field coils can be varied electronically to change the back emf and torque constants of the motor to simulate having different gear ratios, so no transmission is needed. However, the faster an electric motor is spinning the higher the energy loss due to eddy currents in the soft magnetic materials of the motor. This can be mitigated to sime extent through the use of materials with high resistance and by making the laminations of those material stacks thinner.
Scotty will continue to keep saying that electric cars are no good even when most people have electric cars. What I'm noticing in my little town is we have a lot of electric cars, and a lot of electric bicycles, skateboards, scooters, stand up scooters and those one wheeled thingy's that look like they're right out of the BC comic strip. It's the future. Embrace it.
My son drove his Focus 390.000 KM he drives over 140 KM per day. No problems except Struts and ball joint, Kept the oil clean in Engine and transmission.

Bro all I hear is nonsense about this Evs. I have an hyundai ioniq 2020 electric I use it to drive cab its solid. I drive all day at least 10 hrs..and I use public charging because I live in a NYC apartment. If I lived in another state where parking was less of an issue AND I LIVED IN A HOUSE THAT WOULD MEAN I BASICALLY HAVE A GAS STATION AT HOME. THAT WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE FOR ME YOU HAVE NO IDEA. The car is solid. 65k miles in like 2 years no problems AT ALL. Plus it has way less moving parts that can fail. I was a bmw mechanic for almost 10 years. These cars are here to stay. The only thing is they have to keep improving the batteries for more range and faster charging and less pollution in the making process. Anyway you cant go wrong with the new ioniq 5 and 6.. 10-80% charge in 18 mins PEOPLE BE ON THEIR PHONES ANYWAY‼️ you don’t even feel it these cars have enough range for the average person to run their errands. SOLID CARS. Want to have a gas station at home? Get an EV. Want to have less moving parts which means less things that can go wrong and considering how expensive parts and repairs are? Get an EV. Want to pay a lot less or almost free to fuel up? Get an EV plus some of them are coming with free YEARS of charging. Want to have a flat floor and more room in the cabin? Get an EV. Do you like to drive quiet and you dont care about “engine and exhaust sound” ? Get an EV. Want to save money on maintenance? GET AN EV. The only thing I’ve done to my car is NEW SET OF 4 TIRES‼️ which that goes to show. AGAIN I DRIVE FOR A LIVING‼️ this is ridiculous people just need to be better educated on the subject of EVs. The infrastructure is growing we just need it to keep growing thats it. 🙄
When will they realize that battery power exclusively plug in charge doesnt work?
Right now we have the two best examples of how to make electric vehicles work. Trains and the cars in dakar race. . . Which is to say small commute batteries and a motor for generating electricity.
Think about it just a small vtwin motor cycle engine get 100 mph pair that to two coupled electric motors on an old newprocess or similar manual tranny and you have a real car with real range and with all the benefits of the best of both with out the down sides.

There is a LOT more to this than Scotty claims, as USUAL.
Electric motor efficiency is governed by two things. Electrical losses and mechanical losses, (there is a small connection between the two).
The losses depend on RPM/load and for the most part where one is high the other is low so you need to choose the sweet spot, (which is one this he did allude to with transmissions).
What he failed to tell you is the detail about his drive. So he was doing the limit. So what. Was he up and down hills, stop start, AC or heating, full of luggage/passengers and a million other things?????
Did the vehicle have time to learn his driving style?
Doubt it.
No explanation of how a dongle will destroy OBD. How about some detail this time dude?
