100 agree with you I work on my own cars but if I didn’t I would rather pay a bit more then try saving some money looking for a used part that ca. fail
I’d say it’s alittle more gray then black and white but if you’re dealing with a shop to take care of you and your ride, you don’t want to be that customer in a majority situation. You want them to take care of you and you want to trust they’re not fucking you either.
Your somewhat correct how ever I can tell you the same Part you say I need I can get the same part exactly for 50% less so thats a serious markup my friend .Same quality part for 50% less from same parts store no less
Learn your vehicle watch videos on how to do certain repairs. It’s not a very hard thing to do. When I got my own house I build a shop in the back and put a 2 post lift in. Bought tools here and there and if I didn’t know how to do something I would look at videos or go to the forums or pay some website to print out the procedures on how to remove a certain part. The only time I ever go to a mechanic is for hvac evac and recharge or an alignment. As far as the parts thing go never go with anything less than the OE part unless that OE part is the problem itself of course.
I took my car to the shop to replace front wheel bearings pay $600 dollars and two months later one side making noise took it to the shop told me needs a new bearing and i have to pay again because it was my faut the bearing whent bad because my car need alignment..
Ya then if it fails the shop gives some bull crap excuse as to why it’s not under warranty like oh it must been abused by the driver or some other retarded excuse that’s why you just buy the part and fix it yourself if at all possible
Pepboys I gave a shot quoted 4x on the cost for everything then wanted to throw a cost for warranty on it before even talking the loaded labor cost. I went in for an alignment and oil change got quoted that. Took it to the dealership to find out they left the plug lose so I had a slow leak and would come back for it.
I am experienced working on cars and can do all the jobs a mechanic can do at these shops being honest here dealerships are a scam and so are most mechanics any part on a car can fail, that's just the name of the game, the ridiculous amount of money that some mechanics do charge is absurd, for a steering coupler on a 2014 kia forte my sister was quoted 560 bucks at the dealership I fixed it for her for 100 bucks and a 5 dollar coupler on Amazon, took me an hour total from start to finish, that's absolutely ridiculous, and that should be illegal.
I'm so glad I can do all my own work. But that's a good point
Oh you forgot the part where you can "bill" the auto parts place for part of your labor for part you installed if it fails too..

It’s like quadruple more and usually they don’t fail fast so I just go with the cheaper part

That's why I work on my own car
Yeah that's bullshit. You don't warranty your work with the exuberant price of labor?
BULL SH!T
Nope.
I don’t know why you’re complaining you get to be able to charge them for installing parts twice…
Don’t listen to him, just do your research

Another reason to markup is so we can enjoy ourselves when we get home an still have our family.
