Wouldn’t it be a good idea to see if you could find an owner’s manual or schematic for this vehicle? You could have avoided a lot of wasted time and counter productive purchases.
If you can get the schematics of a 1948 silver wraith, which you can finding a mid 50s Studenaker can’t be that difficult.
What year is this vehicle?
How about a Mopar slant six?
My Father drove a 1960 Pontiac Catalina but eventually switched to a 1971 T2 van
Yeah that was a BONER! But let’s face it there aren’t any of these on the road I wish I could help you guys out.
Honestly, I could have done without the dirty water demo!
Well done

Not sure if you put an engine yet, but there are some details to know about. The easiest thing is to put another 6 cyl in it. The 185 cid is the right one not the smaller 169. Most of these cars came with overdrive so check to see if there is an overdrive cable below the dash. In either case, you want to try and keep the original two piece driveshaft. This car should have a Dana 23 rear axle. Not very strong. If it was mine I would install the Studebaker 259 V8 but no burning rubber or you'll break the rear end. If the car is still 6volts leave it 6volts for two reasons. It is a positive ground system and the starter motor, flywheel and bell housing is not interchangeable to 12volt negative ground pieces. Tricky to upgrade a 6volt Stude but can be done.
You guy's did a fantastic job!
A "survivor" like this should always get the original engine and transmission put back in it.
Most importantly, thanks for helping him.
i would put an ls engine in a 5.3 then update the front end and brakes.
so the detail job was free. by the time you find the drum and studs.
