UPDATE: It's Time to Replace My Tesla Model 3 ➡ https://youtu.be/b4pgDQEj8tw
YOU ARE THE REASON THESE THINGS ARE SO EXPENSIVE, YOU NEED TO STAND UP AND DEMAND THAT TESLA FIX THEIR CRAPPY CAR,
Please do add the cost of saving the planet. The petrol dinosaurs on here will be upset at the fires, floods, storms, big freezes and climate related damage along with reduced health and earlier deaths – you would expect. Big oil has been lying a lot recently. You dont need to go far on youtube to hear absolute bullsh1t that the 'less well educated' lap up – just read a few comments below to prove it to yourself.
elon can only blame himself for everything that is happening with the Tesla crash, the car has serious problems that should not even be allowed to be sold before being resolved and one of the biggest problems is the failure to charge at low temperatures, that's what he I knew for sure, the safety of the car is far below expectations, and the drop in the price of the same model dropping by 30% in one year is a robbery for customers, if this is not the end of elenon I don't know what is, and will jeopardize all projects: space x, robots, etc.
And what would the resell value of the Tesla be after 10 years! not a lot I imagine.
wtf?? Camry in US is 35 K. In my country entry level is 50K. WHY Toyota ?
Thanks for the calculations
OK, a few comments. The Tesla makes more sense due to the charging network. I am driving a Subaru Solterra and it doesn't get enough milage to cover much distance – far less than 200 miles -so already we can see that my situation is way different. I don't have anything close to Autopilot, even in the fully loaded Touring model, but it does have full-time AWD like every other Subaru! Still cost about the same prior to the rebate. Another thing: I live on the California Central Coast. Gas is around $5.00/Gallon here, BUT I can't get off-peak watts for less than 0.32 per KwH: that's 3 TIMES what you're paying. If I use Electrify America without a membership, we are talking 0.56 per KwH: an insane 5 times: my wife's Forester is comparable when it comes to $/mile fuel cost. Free charging is now limited and only offered by a handful of manufacturers, I don't think Tesla offers it for life anymore. Subaru offered me free charging on EVGo ($400.00 limit) or I could take the $400.00 towards installation of a new charger. with the charger AND the discount AND the installation, I think I still payed over 1500.00 to have it installed. I don't know what my overall costs will be, but I leased the car and covered most of the down with the rebate, so at the end of 36 months if the situation doesn't improve much, and I don't save a ton of money on maintenance it's bye-bye Solterra. When I bought it I was all set to buy a model 3, but it's driving position did not go with my ancient body too well and the Model Y would not fit in my garage easily enough: the Solterra barely makes it. We had a good relationship with Subaru and their local dealer, so I decided to buy it in the end. I will admit that my satisfaction waxes and wains, but after my first out-of-town trip, it hit an all time low. Thanks for sharing your experiences on Quora!
Thank you for the very detailed assessment. However, which I am sure you know already, there are so many variables here to list a few that can really skew those numbers. The cost to upgrade your home electrical service if your distribution panel is full is another $3,000.00. Also, $0.10 per Kwh is less than half what we are paying now. We are now around $0.22/kwh which would include delivery charges here in Texas so you're charging cost would be double. Also, gas prices seem to be more volatile but if we could keep it stabilized we're $3.00 or less around here in Texas but it does go higher but also lower. Also, another item most do not discuss is your time to go to a supercharger. As more and more buy these cars and the infrastructure stays so far behind, your wait times to charge will become increasingly longer. Not everyone is the same but my time is valuable so 10 minutes at the gas station vs 40 minutes to 2 hours depending on how far in line you could be are back breakers. Then when it comes time to resale or trade in, I would be willing to bet that Toyota Camry will hold its value better than that Tesla say at 10 years old because the battery in the Tesla will probably be worn out where as that Toyota could go another 5-10 years if maintained properly. Not to mention the recent cold weather events or extreme heat like we get in Texas affecting the range. The fact that there is nearly no difference in your cost of ownership to an ICE car is enough to make me ask, "what is the point?". It's already proven it takes about 10 years for an EV to offset the carbon footprint it leaves just to make the thing. I believe I would have to pass on the EV opportunity until technology comes up with a better solution as its becoming increasingly more evident the EV is not what it was made out to be. I'll keep my diesel 1 ton dually!
Your welcome for the TAX credit, that all of the USA and me paid for. So if you didn't get the tax credit? It would have not been worth it. Also what about the cold or high heat did you lose charge? Gas does not degrade in cold or heat only time a lot of it. They are still not worth it.
Let's see a fool and his money:).
I had to replace the AC Unit on my 2015 Tesla S…get ready cost me $5,000
What's with Tesla getting paid carbon credits by other auto companies? Stop the EV subsidy…EVs should pay their own way. EV suckers should not be subsidized,
Great comparison video..
as a Tech guy I’m fully aware the battery is on borrowed time..
Just wondering is a new replacement battery pack covered by Tesla??
Up here in Canada 🇨🇦 I’ve seen some other EV manufacturer battery pack replacement cost around $49,000
also can you do a resale comparison of your Tesla and the Toyota Camry
alot of Canadians like myself tend to keep our vehicles for over 20+yrs
Bought My Jeeps in 1995..
and my Hummer is a 2003
they all run great especially last month with temperatures at minus-40c for weeks at time
cheers from HudsonBay area
You will certainly need a new battery before ten years pass. What does that cost? $16K. The Camry will run over 200K before needing an engine overhaul.
Why did you overlook this cost?
HAHA these Teslas are such a L. i crashed my car and got a motorcycle for $5,000. in 2 years of ownership i have spent probably about $900 in tires, $150 in oil changes, $40 in brake fluid and coolant changes. oh and my 2 gallon tank costs $9 to fill up, and lasts 200 miles. so about $500/year in fuel
I don’t think I saw financing costs added into this total cost comparison. Or did you pay cash?
A note on the price: they are artificial and mean nothing. Government subsidies and tesla price slashing to get people to buy. We are seeing the slow down now though 😂
Wrong calculation due to too short time
Many Parking lots – particularly underground lots, will NOT ALLOW EV's due to the fire hazard.
Resale Value of an EV is practically NOTHING – because, if the battery has to be replaced, it's worth more than the car is.
Road damage? ANY damage to the battery from a pothole or road debris can WRITE OFF your car – because replacing the Battery is worth more than the car, and the resale value is ZERO.
Range – How long does it take to Recharge? I can fill my gas tank in less than 10 minutes and be back on the road. If I'm doing a 7 or 800 mile trip – that EV IS NOT going to cut it.
And for us here in the Great White North – Winter OFTEN reaches -20, -30, or -40 – and can stay there for WEEKS. Recharging a Lithium Battery is NOT recommended (if it's even POSSIBLE) when the temp is below -10, so you'd NEED a HEATED Garage to keep it in, and MANY Home insurers will no longer Insure your house if you have an EV in the garage.
On top of that – when it's COLD, the battery consumes it's own power to keep the BATTERY at a usable temperature, PLUS it uses LOTS of power keeping the passengers warm – reducing your range by a HUGE Margin.
Nope – Not worth the hassle, OR the inconvenience.
Hey Snowflake what would the real cost be minus the government funding Tesla got
I want to know how much of the cost for your ev battery replacement out of warranty compared to a gas vehicle battery . Which vehicle wins on ownership cost over the five years
Depends on where you live (Temperature variations), distance driven daily and access to a mechanic to work on the EV.
And what's your electric car worth now? Vs the resale value of said Camry? Time to come out of lala land.
Just wondering how much is the value of both car after 120k mi?
Your insurance is ridiculously expensive. My Jeep Grand Cherokee cost me $250.00 per 6 months. That's full coverage too.
Similar insurance cost? No way!

Conveniently omitted to talk about • the bank loan and interest for the purchase
• the abysmal cold weather range and charging cost related
• the crash-like loss of value of EVs when you’ll sell it, because if you don’t you’ll have to replace the battery after 10 years for 20K
etc etc etc… very misleading your analysis, you ciunt and account the small spending but you omit to mention the elephants in the room.
You shoulad apologize to your viewers for misleading them, with your green-washed naïve fake cost analysis.
Big lie !!
Tesla haters.
It’s obvious you cannot afford an electric car 😊
You also have to add in that you're most likely going to have to change your battery pack before 200,000 mi which you'll hit within a 10-year mark
Good vid. The facts presented seem reasonable.
Should have compared it to a hybrid. I don’t think I have spent $64,000 on my Prius.
So basically without taxpayer welfare, the Tesla is about $15K more. When someone else is paying for your shit, it's always cheaper. Let me know how much cheaper it is when the battery has to be replaced. Thanks. Seems more like a commercial for Tesla than an analysis. Just sayin. Taxpayers shouldn't be funding other people's purchasing decisions. Not the government's job to steer a market.
This is a government propaganda video. I'm not driving that piece of s*** ever. They made fossil fuel Power Cars expensive and electric power cars cheap.
