No, it wasn't just front wheel drive. It was also all wheel drive.
Would this Honda Legend be a better choice then a Honda Accord and Honda Accord Euro in terms of engine, chassis etc.?
Same "problem" as Peugeot 605-607… FWD-v6 on a 5m long sedan, not what rich people wanted for a brand new luxury sedan at that time. Nevertheless, awesome car.
The reason the transmission is better in manual mode is because Honda doesn't use planetary gearboxes at this time. They still used a proprietary auto clutch system. If you look into it, they are kind of delicate but they are great. The gears are LONG. You get to much higher speeds in low gears than most cars. That car will win a lot of red light races compared to the competition at this time. Honda is a racing company at heart, and they put that into every car they build. I drive a Crosstour. Its great.
Here in Vancouver, it was too expensive, too boring too small and it didn't look like a luxury barge , the previous one did.
It drove fantastic. I worked for Richmond Lexus, and we got 2 of them in on trade after they were only a few months old.
I know this sound crazy, but the was no handgrip in the trunk lid to close it. Both women ,both bought an ES350.
Naturally they were Acura's here, but the just didn't look good. The depreciated faster than they accelerated.
Too bad , because is was SO well built.
The Legend was never an S class level car. It was always a tweener. A car that sits between say a 5 and 7 for a price less than a 5 . Problem is in the states it did not look upscale enough in this generation and they dropped the Legend name for Acura TL or RL I think. Also these cars did not last long like previous Hondas. They are always in the ads with a shot engine.
always liked these
I remember looking at these back in the day and scratching my head about the price, for something based on the same platform as my $30,000 Honda Accord. A very nice Honda Accord, to be sure, but I can think of other cars I'd rather have spent my $85,000 2005 dollars on, if I'd had that much money to spend.
At 2:06 to 2:12 , Three Aussie Legends!
Heard about it's unique 4 wheel drive system.
I like how the car looks
It is not hubris if one is truly exceptional
in the US this car was an Acura not a Honda though it lasted 10 yrs. and 2 generations like the Toyota Camry Solara did and yes it shared a bunch of components with the Rover 800/Sterling 825/827 though those compact British Luxury cars were only sold as new in the US for 5 model yrs. 1987-1991 the cars never sold more than 15,000 units per year in the US due to high import prices the longest production series for a Japanese Luxury Car is the Lexus LS/ES at nearly 35 years granted the later is based on a Toyota Camry which debuted in the US for the 1983 model year and both had their best sales in 2007 the Camry with 473,000 and the Lexus ES with 83,000 there are plenty of American cars that have been produced longer than 35 years including Buick Skylark Olds 98 88 and Cutlass Cadillac Fleetwood Cadillac Eldorado Cadillac Deville Lincoln Continental Chevrolet Corvette Chevrolet Impala Chevrolet Malibu Ford Mustang Ford Fiesta Chrysler 300 etc. though technically the Malibu started as a trim level on the Chevelle in 1964 and many of those models shrunk starting in the late 1970s due to fuel economy standards and later in 1991 the implementation of the Gas guzzler tax Malibu and Mustang both turn 60 in 2024
My opinion the Acura flagship sedan could be better bigger more power to fight Lexus and Mercedes Honda has money 🤑
This looks like a big accord, maybe what the Acura RL would have become here. If honda would make a v8 they could pay the bills selling just crate motors
Awesome highway cruisers, unfortunately the interiors fall apart everywhere, including the top of the dashboard
Amazing drivertrain, odd car
I always wanted one as a kid and still do
Owned one for 4 years. It needed a light pressure turbo to give it more kick between 1500 and 3000 RPMs. After that, VTEC kicks in and there is proper acceleration all the way to red line. To be more competitive with the 5 Series, it would have needed 3 inches more space in the back and 4 more cubic feet of trunk space. Acura also doesn't have split folding rear seats at all.
KB1 and KB2 only got sold as Acura RL in the US.

Owned a 2018 TLX 3.5L Aspec good handling car, but not as good as my 22 M340, the misses drives a MDX Aspec 20 model I don’t like driving it. Really good cars, the older 3.7L liked oil even as new.
It's one of those cars that was a sub par new car but an amazing used car.
There's a 1994 Legend Coupé for sale here , still commanding 6.600£ w/ 1.015.244 miles on the clock … Perhaps it's the exclusivity of the high mileage that pushes the price ?
I own a 2009 Legend, and it is not a 3.7. My V5 states that CC wise, it is 3495.
I drive a modded 2013 Acura TL SHawd with 94K (CND). Such a great car (bulletproof) but.. I hate the ELS sound system integration. It cannot be separated from the auto HVAC/Computer controls. So you cannot upgrade and buy a new stereo with Touchscreen/Andriod Auto and install. Will be selling because of this reason this summer.
Great video as usual – love your insights and presenting style.
Quick question: were those car park shots done in the car park of the Green Man Inn near Silverstone?
I had two when they were called Rover Vitesse 827, nice car but gearbox broke.
I had a Ledged (2006 Acura RL here in California) for about 7 years, just sold her recently. I LOVED that car, strong V6, amazing Super Handling All Wheel Drive, so much fun to drive, super comfortable, and every feature you could think of. It did need a new transmission so that was a bummer. Other than that she was great!
Honda still puts cigarette lighters in its Euro-spec cars??
The Legend name was consigned to history in America years ago because Acura decided to use letters instead of names for models. Honda didn't want to hear American customers to say, "I have a Legend!" They want them to say, "I have an Acura!" Because if you say, "I have an RL," no one would know what you're talking about.
Maybe the Honda little brother the accord coupe was a a better choice and you got a manual but to a 2 litre
