Sorry if this is a dumb question- but is the new applied for 2022 or 2023 tax rebate? My adjust gross will likely be too high in 2023 so hoping to apply to 2022- but i will be purchasing the vehicle now in 2023.

Hello Andy, thanks for the explanation of the costs. I wanted the MY Performance, but had to settle for MY Long Range. I will add the $2000 upgrade for more power as soon as I get the car. I have been waiting for lower price and here they are. I just could not justify the $80K. You did a very good job, now I understand the price structure.
Dont you love it it Tesla gave you instant $7500 at end of year and then went and slash the price in new year. They planned the whole thing.
How does the tax credit work? I’ve heard that it doesn’t come off the price of the car and it will mess up your taxes .
No doubt prices will fall again after Tesla has refined the battery chemistry making salt (NaCl) a cheaper alternative to lithium (Li).
I hope you all understand that the tax credit is non refundable, meaning it applies to tax that you have to pay the IRS. If your taxes are lower than $7,500, you only get whatever your taxes are, and if you have no tax, then you get nothing.

How do you claim the $7500 after you made a big purchase? Is there any forms you have to fill out?
My tax CPA told me that the $7500 is only applied to what is owed when taxes are filed. For example, say when I file my taxes and I owe $1000 for federal taxes, then the $7500 only covers that cost. So $6500 of the $7500 would be lost and you would not receive a check for that $6500 difference. It’s only a credit for your tax liability. We are checking deeper on this and how it really works.

Its really unfortunate how these types of videos fail to example how a tax credit work. Its being marketed as a discount on the cost of the car which is totally incorrect.
I placed an order on 1/15/2023 for a Tesla Model Y Long range in metallic silver gray color with 19 inches wheel for MSRP $53,990. It is below the $55,000 that qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit. But I don.t know whether it will be delivered by March 2023 deadline. I check the inventory in Tesla website for availability within 200 miles distance, and found currently only either 20 or 21 inches wheels Model Y long range are available, and their MSRP are all ABOVE the max $55,000 restriction, ineligible for the $7,500 tax credit.
Cross my fingers, and hope will get the car sooner by March 2023 deadline.

I'm tip-toeing into the Tesla ecosystem with a M3rwd with zero options. My net cost after state rebate and Fed tax credit makes it a no brainer for me. I ordered it yesterday 😉 Carvana is writing me a check for my RAV 4 hybrid (2021) for about what I paid for it over two years ago. Tesla's web site says January or Feb delivery. I hope so!

I just effectively paid $45k for a '23 M3P in Blue (full tax credit eligible, plus state tax credit). So much car for that price.
