You could get a heater without a blower fan? I didn't think that was even a thing that could be done, I figured you would always get a blower.
Steph, can I ride in the back seat?
My boss had the Super Minx but encountered a little problem. After a few months each time he stopped there was a Whoosh-Whoosh, Whoosh-Whoosh sound and the car dipped backwards and forwards a couple of times. Apparently, they had double skin front wings full welded except for a gap at the top. After running for a time in wet weather water collected in the wings and sloshed backwards and forwards on braking. The solution was to drill a hole underneath!
I rode big motor cycles at the time and the only cars which passed me were Porsches and Hillman Minxes! They were fast and remarkably good road holders for the time.
Thank you for the memory .
We used to buy these for $100ish in NZ back in the mid/late 70's , fit the Hillman Hunter 1725cc engine ( basically bolted straight in ) and these became a race car , faster than a standard Hunter , Cortina , Zephyr or Anglia .
I think it was because these Minxs and Super Minx's were so well made and handled like a race car ,, great memories , thanks again .
edit: , Ahh the handbrake ,, the old fingernail ripper off'r ,, painful !
My grandfather had one of these not my cup of tea!!! He worked @ AWA Ashfield in Sydney Australia & Retired in 1972 then bought a new car ! & Got another 🍋 !! Lol it was the BMC Morris Marina!!!!
Nice cre, nucecare, beau9tfl omman c
Having owned one of these I would have said there is no way this car was capable of speeds in the high 80's. Even High 70's was a bit of an effort.
Remember my father hiring a Hillman Minx and driving the family of 5 kids from Sussex to Cornwall in the mid 60's
Thank you, Steph… British at its most eclectic…
In the mid 60s, my father bought a Hillman Hunter, the upmarket version of the Minx. It was a lovely car. Alas just eight weeks after buying it, we were involved in a crash. The oncoming driver lost control and swerved in front of us. The car was written off. The insurance company valued the car a lot less than what he paid for it. So dad had to find something cheaper, it was a Minx, exactly like this one.
Hillman were beautiful
I whatch bad chad hes in canada he modifies cars he was looking at a new progect he asked whats under this cover the seler said a right hand drive hillman minx i thouht what a progect that would make
These were also sold in Sweden, I remember them from my childhood, and seeing one again was a joy.
These were taxis in Singapore in the 1960s
Hi Steph dont you look fantastic. I love your video,s.
My dad’s 111c from 1961 was scrapped in 1977. Had turned into a total rot box. But what a mistake, should have had it welded up and tucked away in a dry garage ever since.
Great video. Love the black tights you're wearing 😮
A car of this model was the only one I ever owned, and had her for 21 years in Sri Lanka. However, mine had been made by Isuzu in Japan. Had been used in Japan by the man who first bought it. i became the third owner. My car had column steering, a radio, and most distinctive, shutters with a light green tint. So it was olive green and cream for most of the the time I had her.
Other cars of that model had pink and blue tinted shutters, so the paint followed those colour schemes. The engines were 1592 cc. I joined the Classic Car Club of Ceylon by virtue of owning the car, and it meant a lot to me.
Love your presentations, knowledge and çamera work that gives a great overall look at the car. Bubbly genuine and ďown to earth. Thanks all the way from Australia.
Only thing I’m not too fussed on is the provision at the top of the steering column for a column change – it somehow doesn’t look quite right. But other than that, lovely car. Yet another great video, thanks for posting.
yet another car/marvelous review!
this actual car is parked outside our house now as i type this, Kev services and MOTs our cars and apparently you might be doing a video of a Humber car today 😉
My dad had a Hillman Minx back in the 70's. Kept it in the garage and I'll never forget the wonderful combined smell of petrol, old leather, old stainless steel and oil.
What a great vlog it just brings back so many memories. The Minx was my Mums favourite car that Dad drove. He used to change motors every two years but this one he kept and I learned to drive in. Thanks idriveaclassic.
I learnt to drive, and passed my driving test in a 1500cc 1959 3B with column change. That was in 1976 and the examiner admired the fact that i had learnt, and he said, mastered the column gear change, something he was surprised about in 1976.
