Most people sell their EVs because their batteries are failing from abuse…Battery degradation and Phantom drain —- if you continue using the fast charge method you will increase speed at which your batteries degrade . You will start losing range at even a faster rate than normal resulting in more frequent charges and even more time lost and finally … battery replacement and believe me, you don't want that $$$$$. The best way to explain Phantom Drain, … it is like having a small hole in your gas tank or in this case EV. In other words , money down the drain.. EVs lose juice by just sitting for a period of time ( in the garage, driveways, street, etc)
All rechargeable batteries do.
Have you noticed all the Used Electric Cars sitting on car lots.? I drive alot up and down the CA. State, I've noticed a lot of EV showing up in these used car lots. I've even seen newer used 2023 models. That says it all, .. evidently not too many people like their EV . Looks like more are going back to Gas.
We sold our EV , and good riddance. We didn't realize just how bad these electric cars are for the environment.
Ive considered a used model S most owners I talked to say get a 14 or above because thats when the build quality started getting better
I love to see my "old" Model S is still looking and running great! Cool video, brought back some great memories!
It literally took him all day (9 hours) to make a 4 hour drive and half a tank on a civic. 😂
Hoping to pick up a SC01 Model S or X this year
Even if You paid me I would not drive an electric car.
How did you maintain maximum capacity for your battery? Our 2018 model s, when charging to 100% displays 325….
10 years is old for car? Not really.
Do you able upgrade to 100Kwt battery ?
HUGE risk to buy a battery electric vehicle with no manufacturer warranty.
Sort of a non-event. I have a 7 year old Tesla with 129k miles. Routinely drive 360 mile round trips once a week. Have seen essentially no degradation between 70k miles and 129k miles on clock. As for charging speeds. As a 2013, you have a Gen 1 pack, known for slowest charging. Additionally, the charging station you selected appears to be a 'urban' charger, which has a max charge rate of 75kwh if I remember correctly. On a 2015 S90D, using the latest supercharger, I routinely see 110-115kwh up to about 45% soc, and then then normal taper down of the charging curve. I agree, the last '10 minutes' it takes longer time wise what the dash says to charge. However, I think a better test for your video would've been a Gen 3 Supercharger.
As for pre-conditioning. On a cold day, I would say the car is doing that. Since you just completed a highway drive, at almost 100F, I doubt any preconditioning was used by the car. As the a/c cools the battery in hot weather, it was probably at the optimum temperature for charging when you got to the supercharger
All in all a good video to show that EVs are not 'throw aways' and that batteries can still be useful 10 years after the purchase.
I can still drive my 23 year old Honda Accord for an 8 hour trip on one tank. Car has been super reliable since I bought it new in 1999. Its just a car, nothing special, but I love it.
Why buy used when u can get a new one cheaper. After federal and state rebate
I have a 2013 Model S, and it's still running like a champ! I only use it for running around town and it's perfect for that
Love it when it goes wruuum
Bigger windmills means more dead birds 🦅
Do how reliable is a ten year old tesla , how easy is it to get it fixed? In UK tesla gets low reliability ratings compared to nearly all other makes of car according to Which magazine.
ah so this is why there is no Teslas in Nelson, too far to reach…
The more cars get on the market the more the aftermarket (mom and pop shops) will respond for refurbishing and repairing them.If not, what land fill will they end up in?)We still aren`t sure how long the motors on average will last or how past owners will have abused them. If aftermarket batteries become a "thing" poorer folks may get a chance to use them.
Will battery "repositories" be efficient or cause environmental problems.I`m still waiting to hear from government if they have a plan, I`m saying, they are pushing these things on the public.
👍🏼
Nope, they are not. Here in Norway we have so much old Tesla cars and they are so cheap and no one buy’s them. Tesla modes S from 2015 with 100.000 kilometer on the clock it’s around 18.000 – 20.000 euros. And no one it’s interested about them….
Enjoyed your video. Can you tell us some of the mods you did to your MS?
No way is it worth it
Really looking good that Model S. Can I ask what wheels you got on!!
Kyle Connor would have a stroke, if he ever sees your charging style.
I own a 2013 Model S P85+ with 181k miles. I still get 232 miles of range on a full charge, 208 at 90%. Still original battery. I will continue to see how it does. Doing good so far.
Took my 2015 s 90d on a road trip from Florida to new York in January, and it worked great. And on my wife's 2014 base 60 we upgraded the computer ($2500) and it feels like a much newer car.
I’d buy if it’s 1/10th the original price
This background song reminds me of one I’ve heard before, is it a remix, anyone know?
🤣🤣🤣that's not a road trip man, that's average daily commute in LA 🤣🤣🤣
8:53 I’ve only charged to 100% once in our P85+, just to see what the car’s estimated max range would show after 145k miles. 238 miles out of the original 265.. only 10% less than when factory fresh. The last 3% took a while. From 97 to 98%, it took 5:51 min, from 98-99, it took 8:34 min, and from 99-100, it took a whopping 21:38 min! I saw the 100% drop to 99% after just a little over a mile driving on the freeway, and then I was able to travel 4.1 miles from 99-98%, so it tracked as expected as far as Wh/mi goes. But aside from this, the mist I’ve ever charged it before then was 96%, and that was road tripping through the wilderness on our way up to Canada. We ended up arriving at the next station with ample charge, but we were giving ourselves the peace of mind as we were traveling through sparsely populated areas for that leg. Tesla has since added Superchargers in between those points, so charging that much for that journey again wouldn’t be necessary. In any case, the vast majority of our charges are done up to 60-80%, and we usually don’t recharge until in the 20’s or 30’s. Makes for shorter stops and more than enough to top off at home. Exceptions would be when road tripping across the desert 🏜️ we’ll charge up to 80-90% on some of those desolate legs just to have more than needed. Never know when you might encounter strong head winds, need to take a detour, unexpectedly take the scenic route, etc.
Well maintained car! Looks brand new!
OK, so it's a viable proposition, but your typical 10 YO car is going to be worn. I don't want a worn car, or feel the need to spend $ for restoration. Getting a new car is a special experience and that's why I got a new M3.
The driving experience does not revolve around southern California….get out of your bubble & see the outside world.
I dealt with a Nissan Leaf from 2014 for 2 years. Only had 80 miles max on the guess-o-meter. This would be a huge upgrade 🎉
Beware any used Tesla that is more than 6 years old! Their main battery can and do fail without warning regardless of mileage! Hundreds of cars with less than 35,000 miles have failed! Replacement of the main battery is the only option at a cost between $18,000-$20,0000! No joke! Search for BMS_u029 to find out more. #BMS_u029
Excellent video. I just bought my first Tesla… a 2018 Model S P100D. It's awesome.
At timestamp 2:02 you show the driver console. The center display is much better than what I see… which is just the car and the speed. I know I can change the side display items but can I change the presentation of the center item?
Additionally at timestamp 2:52 you show a consumption chart on the main display. How to you access that? I have the latest software update.
Thanks in advance.
