I got a flat on my front tire of my motorcycle out in a rural area many years ago. This was before cell phones. Had to walk a few miles to a house to ask them if I could use their phone. The guy told me I didn't have to. He went to his garage and picked up a hand tire pump and a few sheet metal screws. He rode me back to my bike. Found the hole. Screwed in a screw and pumped up the tire. IT WORKED! Loved the clicking sound as I rode home. It held air til I got home and stayed inflated for some time til I was able to get another tire. He wouldn't take any money for helping me. I always kept a few screws and a small bicycle pump in my bag on my bike after that.
For small repairs I use dynaplug, it is small and you don't ream out the hole and cause more damage.
Mushroom plugnever fails but can be a pain getting in sometimes, I've had a plug in the tyre for years now
forgot to mention that with mushroom plug you will loose all the air.
I've used the sticky-rope style plugs for over 30 years on car, truck, trailer, and tractor tires. I've never added add'l cement or glue. They just work. And the installation is simple, the tools have no moving parts.
New dumb idea solving a problem thats already been solvedโฆ
None of this junk works. It will start leaking and damage your tire. Causes run flats. Go to tire shop and get it probably repaired.
Sticky one is cheaper, faster, and better.
I watched another video comparing different patches. The mushroom was the worst.
I use tyre slime on my rear tyres fun um for 4 years still wet inside
Used the sticky ropes for years and never had one fail. My boat trailer has a rope plug on one of the tires right now in fact that I put in early this summer after picking up a large screw. This also includes a repair on an r-compound autocross tire on my autocross car that would regularly see the PSI bumped up between 45 and 50psi during races and pushed through multiple spins, drifts and slaloms. Ran that tire basically to the cords and that little plug was still holding fast when I tossed the tires. No thanks on any "new" tech to fix a problem that doesn't exist.
Iโd like to know if you ran the tyre till they needed replacing, then tell us which is better.
I used these sticky ropes for many years in Southern Africa.I had loads of punctures. Now living in the UK , the other day I had a puncture and I plugged it myself.
Then I went to a tyre place and asked them to change it to a mushroom type.
They refused to help because apparently these sticky ropes are illegal in the UK.
I told them that I could pull the rope out and insert the screw that had caused the puncture but they refused to have anything to do with me.
I think these sticky ropes are so good and so effective that the tyre repair people have somehow managed to make it law that they canโt be used.
These sticky ropes are very safe and have even plugged large holes on the side wall. You can keep shaving them in and have 5 of them plugging a garage hole.I would later scrap the tyre but these sticky ropes are just fantastic.
I'm a sticky rope(dog turd) bloke myself. I had heard about the mushroom kits and people saying they were better but I havn't seen them before. After watching this, I can confirm that I'll be sticking to the dog turds. The installation of the turds maintains a very useable tyre pressure so the repair can be made if you have no access to air. The mushroom kit looks to allow air to escape quite quickly whilst changing from the spike to the inserter though that may be able to be done better. It also looks to be a little more fiddly during the process. That, and you can stack the turds for larger leaks. I also only use the rubber cement until I run out of whatever came with the kit, then I just dont use any. they will seal with or without it and still outlast the tyres.
Neither, repair it probably with a patch from the inside. Otherwise your gambling with your life.
I've never had a sticky strip fail in 40 years of riding. The mushrooms are nice and clean, but they rarely hold air.
stick with the sticky rope repair is old school, never fails. Thank you for the video. I'll leave my mushrooms in my salad.
The one that works best is which ever one I have at the moment .. either or is fine…
The old type may not look smooth but whatโs important is that the hole is sealed and also the old type has glue on it. The mushroom one looks nicer inside but looks arenโt whatโs important. Whats important is that the hole is sealed ๐
I never used the plud strip, but I have many times used a mushroom plug, this when I was a mechanic at an auto repair shop. However, in every instance I also broke the tire from the wheel and went over the mushroom plug head with a patch inside the tire. This was only done when the hole in the tire seemed to large to plug with an inside patch alone.
If u plug it right. The plug will last the lofetime of the tire
Iโve used neither. How does the sticky strip not get pulled out again when removing the applicator?
I prefer the sticky strip method. Used over and over. And never let down….๐
These repair kits are only for low 35psi tires and NOT high 80psi tires.
Seems to me the mushroom cap would break off over time, unlike sticky one that is more likely to stay in place
Definitely the sticky seal it is much faster to install
The plug must be heated (put it on a paper on top of the engine) to get it Soft in order to stick and not pull out. Also, will not work on wet tire (rain)
For me mushroom plug, applied with cement every time. Used many times on car, trailer and motorcycle punctures, not all my vehicles. Ive had too many failed sticky rope (slow leaks) but never with a mushroom.
Iโd like to see the example performed on a completely flat tire on the side of the road
I used the mushroom plug and it worked perfectly. But I think the rope plug will work as well.
Sticky old one works fine. Used many times never failed plus its cheap
I've used the strips consistently for years. While in general they seem to hold up very well, yet every now and then one would develop a slow leak, and I'd have to redo it. In theory the mushrooms should work better since the underside of the head fits snug and flush against the tire surface, and work in conjunction with the tire pressure to help press it against the tire surface. I think if the stalk of the mushroom plugs were textured and they had a thin coat of vulcanizing material on the underside of the head they would stay in better. When done correctly, the strips form a sort of mushroom or ball on the inside of the tire that mimics the mushrooms head.
The mushroom plug was installed after the reamer was pulled and the air pressure was gone, while the old school plug was quickly installed after pulling the reamer. The mushroom seems to involve too many steps, and unless you've a camera in the tire as shown, you can't be certain of it's correct or otherwise installation. To jump through all of those hoops on the side of the road is a non starter for me. by the time you are done you have a plugged tire that is completely flat and you need roadside assistance or a spare anyway. Sometimes we should just leave well enough alone.
Trip to spain ,my bike picked up two plasterboard screws in one go,all over road.
Used the string type, one was 1 inch near edge of tyre, held up for 600 miles doing some higher speeds and started leaking, repluged and started leaking a tiny bit immediately, so thought ill check in a hour at first fuel stop.still leaking ,moved on another 120 miles and it sealed itself. I wouldn't hesitate to use again or put multiple strings in .Once they are in,not coming out and ive tried hard with pliers to pull out,in end pushed in with the reemer and put another string in.The one in the middle didn't leak at all.
2500 miles on the plugs are still in tyre and the one loses only 2 lb per week.

Never use the mushroom always use the strips..but with tire on car I think I try the mushroom kit ..with strips tire on car hard to rim it out and put in strip laying on floor
I have never plugged a leak, but just looking at the video, its very clear that the sticky plug strip just looks much robust. And the comments here confirm that.
Hello! I really appreciate your time and the demonstration of these two types of repairs. I am absolutely satisfied with the Mushroom Plug !
La riparazione con le strisce รจ definitiva, quella con il fungo di gomma non sempre!
I don't care which one looks nicer , just to fix the flat tire and go .
