Back in the oder days my dad, grand dad, and great uncle used used motor oil and diesel fuel in a garden pumpp up sprayer to under coat there pick ups !
Here to tell you my great uncle had the cleanest working 74 International 4×4 3/4 ton with 401 4speed !And 72 olds 98 in the late 80's that would make new car owers jealous ! No rust on either of those cars and he moved here to WV from Akron Ohio ! So wasn't like he moved from the south to WV ! He moved from salt city Ohio to mid state sinderville WV ! Yes sinders (extra small black stones spinkled on intersections and hills to add traction in iceyand snow conditions !)
Could you just use jb weld instead of actually welding?
I subbed 2 your channel when I saw your ohio thumbnail
I'd suggest just using your natural, conversational voice when you talk to us. The Mr. Announcer voice gets annoying after a while. Just be real. Like you're talking to a group of friends.
I know it might seem kind of odd but when you said you ran your tank down to almost empty anybody who knows or deals with flammable liquids in tanks knows an almost empty tank is more dangerous way more dangerous than a full one i’ve even seen it with my own two eyes a garage burned down with a Corvette stingray purple the whole back half just got past the doors burnt up pretty bad and the only thing that saved it is he just went to the gas station and filled his tank there was no fumes in the tank to explode
The old timers used to tell me after they fix a frame they'd weld all the holes and fill the frame with oil. I know the holes are there for a reason but they'd never rust from the inside out ahah.
Dude is that a dildo?
I think there a flaw in your repair. The chain or the frame is going to be as strong as the weakest point. You should have reinforced the top panel which is probably the most important.
What you do is, trade ol rusty for a Ford.
!
Hi informative video. I have 93 mazda 929. I have 1' long bad rusting where you put the lift arm on driver side passenger. I am not sure if this car is unibody or body on frame. Also i see very next to the rusty channel is gas tank. Please give me some idea. I really want to repair this and keep my car. Ty
It would be great if you could do a 1-year update on your welds/paintjob/fluid film application, how does it hold up over time?
I would never do this
Look like truck need new frame
I have a 1981 Toyota pickup diesel, but it’s been sitting in a field for 20 years. The frame is decent except for on bolt sides where it curves down at the back. At both of those places it is rusted through and even cracked in half. I can’t really pull it out of the field like that, any tips to either repair it in the field or just brace it to bring home would be greatly appreciated.
Just bought a 94 cherokee 5 speed 4×4 and the frame is fkn HORRIBLE… gonna start the process of fixing er up soon
Gonna be honest. It's probably more dangerous having the tank low than full. More fumes when low. I assume anyway
send the truck to pakistan, and you will see the result of making a strong frame😂
Wool wax. Or fluid film
At some point I'd like to do my T-100 and I'm looking at Woolwax which seems interesting.. I have a patch on my frame in the exact same spot..lol😆 Great vid..👍
Почему не плазморез?
Nope, I use Brunox as rust converter, then Fertan epoxy primer , then Dinitrol bitumen-wax undercoating.
Naturally, it doesn't hold up for too many years when doing 20000+ km a year … but it does fare good enough.
I think you did a thorough repair here. One question for you though… wouldn’t it be dangerous to take out large chunks of a frame like that? I mean, you’re sitting under it after all and that’s what’s holding the truck up.
If the rust sitting in the frame holds moisture and causes more rust, then why is it rusting through on the sides, but not the bottom?
Damn, thats a lot of Rust my Friend.
U need Fat, because Fat is the only One, that dont dry and Fat will "eat" the Rust…
Im from Germany and we got some nice Stuff here, the Name is " Time Max ". Its the best Brand in Europe for Rust.
But i think in the US u have " Surface Shield " , thats nice too!
Very comprehensive video sir. I commend anyone who's actually doing this kind of work on their older vehicles. Being an owner of a 97 GMC Yukon, I was fortunate enough to still have a solid frame that didn't require welding repair. However the surface rust along the frame as well as towards the back of the vehicle (where the spare tire sits) was absolutely horrendous. I ended up using a needle scaler to get the majority of the rust off, cleaned the frame with POR15 rust remover and a pressure washer, then proceeded to spray it with fluid film oil spray. Unfortunately the fluid film didn't last very long and dried off within 3 months of application. It's a real shame that North American weather and road brine don't play nice with our relics. Keep that truck beautiful bud ✌🤟
In England we have a product called Waxoil Rust Protection. This can be sprayed into enclosed areas like sills (think you call them rockers in the USA) or frames. Would have been good to do this before welding although you could still spray it through the holes you showed us. Very good. Be good if all car manufacturers use it in high rusting parts of the country.
First thing……unhook your battery, positive and negative. 😉
I have a question. Did you find rust inside your frame!? 😂
My buddy in Ontario is looking for someone to do this. Would you? For a fee of course.
holes in your welds is called porosity
Thank you for that video.
I noticed when you were welding horizontal and overhead.
It may be easier to spot the weld in as you go. Hold your trigger a couple seconds each time to achieve max penetration. You wont have to go back over your weld and it will give a great ripple effect like a aluminum weld
Keep up the great work 👍.
Don't buy Toyota pickup. Rust problems
These old Toyota pick up truck just rot and rot. Best to remove the bed, strip the rest out and get the chassis blasted. Then start cutting and rebuild. I guarantee there will be at least 100% more corrosion than you first thought.
Once welded ensure you use a good quality rust proofing inside the chassis and obviously treat and repair to the rebuilt chassis.
Do you help people with frame repair? I need help.
