Hey Ian, hear me out. You deserve that bike ✨
"3rd gear will have you going faster than 100 miles per hour before you can even think about what's going on"
Having never even broke 100 on my mt07…. Maybe I shouldn't get this bike…
Good review. I completely skipped the off road part. Zero point.
If they sold an offroad bike with a 4 cylinder engine, I'd buy it immediately. And not the $35,000 Ducati V4 with 200 hp. I mean, something that is priced closer to $13,000. I prefer a 4 cylinder over any other engine for road riding, because the engine is just more fun at higher RPM than any other engine configuration. Inline 4 engines feel better, the harder you ride them, and they get smoother and better the faster you go. There's a YouTube series of a guy who travels the entire world and goes through Brazil on a Hayabusa 2nd generation, with about 300 pounds of cargo and luggage, and his wife on the back. He ends up going through about 30 tires, and is constantly putting plugs in tires, because of how bad the roads are when traveling the world. The Hayabusa engine produces tons of torque right after 2,700 rpms, you can drive it all day under 4,000 rpms and it's still fun. Just like a car engine. Why don't they make a Hayabusa engine adventure bike? It would be heavy, but they make a Tiger 1200 which is super heavy?
I randomly jumped on a demo with one of these at Americade this year when the bike I wanted to ride wasn't available. This isn't the kind of bike I usually gravitate toward, but I was blown away TBH. One of the best bikes I have ever demoed and certainly the most fun for twisty road riding with basically the perfect blend of comfort, performance, and handling. Really a top-notch machine.
Very nice and practical bike. the design is very stunning. Awesome review.
I sat on one of these & I found that the seat is really uncomfortable. It slides you forward into the tank. A real nut crusher!
The "comfort" part of the equation of the XR is the riding position. The foot pegs are straight down, the handlebar is wide and positioned as on a standard street bike. You are sitting nearly upright, not leaning forward with half your weight on your wrists. My personal issue is I'm 6'4", I need a higher windshield and a better seat for long term riding. After finishing a 150 mile ride yesterday, my butt was most uncomfortable. I took a couple of short breaks during the ride, but I'm getting a different saddle ASAP. Other than that, I absolutely love this bike. I find myself laughing and whooping out loud as I ride because it's simply exhilarating. The straight line acceleration is amazing and the way you can flip it through the curves is awesome. I've been riding bikes since I was 14 and I'll be 75 in a couple of weeks, I've had everything but a Ducati and this is the most fun I've ever had, period….. My next bike will be the 2024 M1000XR if I live that long. (I would like to ride a Multistrada Pikes Peak, but $35K+, I don't think so)
Only ONE thing I want ppl to be aware of, that you & BMW missed/forgot? If the switches were BACKLIT, that would have been "X"tremely awesome, because the XR is so much FUN, the "adventure" may not end at dusk🥰. Very accurate review. Thank you for doing such a good job for us(he even went off road, ya'll 👍🏽). I own a 2023(since Father's Day, '23), and I can tell you, this review is spot on! Listen to this man, and respect this machine, and you'll do fine. She is definitely, a keeper. -👌
I agree. It really erks me that manufactures don’t use LED signals. It’s 2023, it’s like they go out of their way to NOT use them.
Great video! Thanks for being thorough
Well formulated video! I own the Ice Grey XR and I love it!! Yes the GS is probably in some ways a better bike but not nearly as exciting to ride..
I have a 2023… It's a s1000r in a adv chassis. The top end is completely unnecessary and frankly dangerous as this this is on stilts…. I like doing touring but don't want to hop on a cruiser and give up the speed. Hence the XR for now
I took this bike for a rip at a demo day. Lots of giggles. If you need to ride an hour or more to your favorite road, this is your bike.
Great review for a great bike. My buddy owns this bike and I will tell you that the seat absolutely SUCKS! The engine is excellent, leg position is not great for long rides. Fun bike but BMW needs to fix the comfort issue.
Can you make a review on tracer 9gt?
Is this an Sports Adventure bike ? how does it compare to the GS? it looks almost the same. Who would be an GS and who would buy a S1000XR?
You are a good man 🙂
What is the relationship between the Big Rock Moto channel and BMW?
Do you feel the weight of this bike on slightly tighter twisties, debating between this and s1000r? I am looking for an all rounder, mostly commute and weekend runs + few longer trips in a year.
THE competitor of this bike would be the Ducati Multistrada…
I think it's competition would be the Ducati multistrada V2S considering pricing. V4 is much costly.
BMW still has one more bike to add to their lineup. I'd really like a fully faired (sport bike / not sport touring for the street) with the egos of the S1000R similar to Suzuki's GSX-S1000F. I don't want a naked bike and I don't want a track bike or adventure bike. Just a sexy, fast, comfortable street bike you can ride all day. That would be the ultimate machine. All the others just seem too focused or compromised in some way or the other. S1000RR too track focused / leaned over, S1000R not enough wind protection, S1000XR too tall – don't care for the looks of adventure bikes, and R 1250 RS too heavy – prefer inline 4. FYI this was a fantastic review!
DOT regulations require turn signals to be old style bulbs which sucks.
Thank you for the great review. I'm getting older and thinking about trading my K1600GT for this. It's lighter
In Norway, we pay ower 28.000,- dollars for this bike…..🤣
excellent review. Thank you. I've been looking at this bike for a while now and now waiting to see the 170 hp 2024 version before I make a decision.
This is the first vid i've found of yours, but wow man… you really delivered a comprehensive and well articulated review of this bike. Thank you for sharing your insight.
