Trying NOT to believe it! 2007 Silverado 3500 Duramax 6.6 Diesel system additive https://youtu.be/X4AbALaWR7o
I have to go to the mechanic with all my female kin. I'm in a wheelchair or I'd fix it myself. I've called out some people and got banned from their shop, like I'd go back… It ANGERS me when people rip off obviously struggling old ladies! My wife knew nothing about engines when we met, now she's calling out bullsh!t. She changes her own oil and does most of her own maintenance. We need to teach our sisters, daughters and wives how to do these things in my opinion.
When people take advantage of older people it REALLY hits my thumb with a hammer.
Glad to see that there's still honest mechanics out there. I try to teach my daughters things about the cars so that when they have to take them in and I'm not around they don't get ripped off. Put a lot of stuff I'm able to fix except for internal engine repairs.
all of that stuff is under tension when lifted in the air.
ruined the video? what? … I am just happy that you and your shop is honest and didn't try to rip this lady off … though what you said at the end is true … MAYBE IT WASN'T malicious but a form of MAYBE firing a parts cannon to fix an issue or concern that wasn't communicated to you … that could be key.
Automotive industry can be cut throat, not all are bad but a lot are there for money only. Out of highschool in auto training in my first intern technician position I worked for a Honda dealership and a clearly drug addicted single mom came in with her 3 kids, long story short it was an early 90's civic with over a quarter million miles, sold her a head gasket, full head and block machining, all 4 Z rated tires and a tone more, she didn't know the difference between a crack pipe and a screwdriver but her daddy paid. Car was worth $1000 at best but the total ticket was over $8k they kept giving the "safety of your children" speech. Fucking disgusted me.
Good evening
Following instructions? No, you grab your balls, man up, and refuse those instructions!
Just like everyone on Star Trek could fight….
Every American should be an economist and expert on freedom.
…just sayin'
A friend of mine used to work at Jiffy Lube. He said they would use gender, age, and race profiling to determine who to try and up-sell things they didn’t need to. They would also hang out behind the shop and smoke weed. So you’d have a bunch of stoners using scare tactics to try and sell things that people didn’t need to unsuspecting customers. Complete disgrace. This is one of the many reasons I learned to work on our own cars.
You do the same I do. I work in the service industry and I pull the customer out of there AC office and show them what I’m quoting and why. 9/10 they approve the quote if I show them what’s wrong rather than a email
You made 5 clicks checking the air filter but only did 4 clicks when reinstalling … you missed one of the spring clips to close the airbox . 7:00 due de du de do de do!
Hi, I enjoyed the video thanks. I though I saw oil dripping from somewhere when you were under the car? Also we have a newish citroen berlingo diesil and it's doing 54mpg just for your interest. Fuel is $10 a gallon! In England.
I had an old '93 v8 Holden (Chevy I guess is the comparable product) a while back and these things are known for leaking oil everywhere. It's a regular thing with these engines, to find one that doesn't leak is rare. Anyway I took it for its regular oil change at a shop because I didn't have the time or space to change it myself and when I went to pick it up it was the same old classic "wE nEeD tO pUlL tHe EnGiNe OuT sO wE cAn FiX tHe LeAkS". I said no way and the engine lasted for another 100,000 kms before any serious work was needed on it. I never went back there again… so they actually lost a customer.
If that dually full size truck gets 43.7 miles to the gallon it's either diesel or a gas scam my 04 4.8 silverado 1500 didn't get that good but I still have it running strong at 261,348 miles on it all original parts. Need to figure out how to get that good gas mileage back tho.
Glad she came to you for a second opinion. If they would have been square with her, they could have made some money and have a customer for life. Now all they get is nothing and in this day of media platforms, don't you think she is going to tell her friends and they will not go to that shop as well? Think about it.
Always a fun choice: incompetent or crook.
You amongst anybody should know that you cannot check ball joint or sway bar link visually! You need to be pulling down on the bar all the bottom arm to see if there’s any excessive movement in it
One of the castle nuts looks odd to me…
Oil dip stick, from low to full isn't it 1 qrt?
dude mechanics like you (and fortunately like the one I use) are worth a million. My mechanic is a big expert when it comes to anything VW Group related, so when I asked him to do a 2000 dollar job (DSG flush) he straight up said "It's not worth it for another 100.000-200.000km" and I was like "Are you sure? The money don't matter I just want a healthy car" and he said "You have a healthy car, just needs new tyres" XD
Take the car off the ground by hand try to shake the front wheels at 12/6 and 9/3. No play, no problems.
I've known cars that were worse after going to a shop than when they went in. those places tend not to stay in business very long since bad news spreads faster than good news.
I noticed you forgot the fifth clip on the aire filter… But we're all human it happens😉
here in pennsyltucky, where we have safety inspections, "ball joints", are always the first thing that D-bag mechanics always "misdiagnose"… it gives them something to do…
I became wise to this, after I got tired of changing the same ball joint, year after year, and I made a little "acid" test… funny how clean bolts, and a clean boot, on the same, "bad" balljoint, makes it, "good"…
Definitely need more HONEST mechanics like Ray….
Ray, Just a thought, I see you have a lot of standing water around your house when it rains, are your eve troughs backed up with junk and it's running over or do you need something on your down spouts so it can get away? Just a heads up, that is the most important investment
You are a good man
Isn't called suit gun of oil sorry about spelling.
I didn't see you check the sway bar links for play….
When I worked at the dealership you never parts pushed
With regard to the low oil level, these engines are notorious for burning oil. My daughter has this same engine and it uses a quart every 700 miles. There was a class action lawsuit against Honda for this. The oil control rings are crap.
Looks like they tried to scam the old lady for sure @Rainman Ray's Repairs
They tried to sell her on lower ball joints and sway bar endlinks makes me think they were going to charge her for them parts but never actually install new parts to scam her out of the money @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Thks for taking care of granny ,you are a great fella!
This video is MAP certified!
You never ruined the channel when you did the right thing by exposing Dirt Bag Mechanics, and helping a Fixed Income person not to spend money they may not have. This could only mean a return to you when she needs the car actually repaired. Good Job.
working at a independent shop for electrical specialist and tune ups, didn't matter what the issue was, remove distributor cap and wire's and replace! with Mercedes and Porsche and others coming in that were fairly new and doing this the owner was racking in thousands of dollars, not hundreds, I would complain and was threatened to get fired, until a under cover car came in for servicing because of complaints of over changing and not having written estimates, I went to lunch and came back to a closed shop with the owner being arrested, for expired papers to be here legally, one job I was glad not to go back to, California based,
Ray you're a good dude.
Literally just did an oil change on an 03 buick century. This woman was like, look, I know it needs a lot of work on the suspension and stuff, but I'm waiting to get the money together. Well, first I couldn't lift it on anything but my drive on lift because it was rusted to shit, as expected. Tires were at 1-2/32nds, hole in the coolant reservoir, leaky no pressure radiator hoses, oil pan leaking like crazy, dashboard didn't work, so no idea speed, mileage, what lights are on (although it was misfiring like crazy, so I suspect it would have been on), I never even bothered looking at any part of the suspension. Brought her back to show her everything, and I was like "Please don't put any more money in to this car. I don't even want to bother with this oil change." and she was like "My guy said it just need sway bar links, struts and tires." And I"m like "Yeah because that's all easy bullshit work, that takes no time to do and makes money. He is ripping you off. Period." So I gave her a conventional oil change for 30 bucks and she promised to take that shitbox to the crusher and buy something else. But man, I was fired up when I was looking at this thing with all these major high-labor time EXPENSIVE problems, and some jackass is recommending easy suspension work and tires on a car that I would be shocked if it makes it another 1-2k miles. Some people in our business are absolute pieces of shit.
I took a car to a very well known transmission shop to have them read the codes for a check engine light. They "recommended" a whole lot of repairs. Right up untill I showed them my ase certification card. Then the whole story changed.
Well done Ray! What a horrible nasty corrupt individual. Shame on them.
You Sir are truly a Gentleman and a Scholar. Keep up the fantastic work and incredible ethics.
I know Ray is a good guy who wants to give the benefit of the doubt because everyone makes mistakes and whatever, but *NAMING and SHAMING* is the only way this kind of thing will stop. These crooks and scammers see blood in the water whenever someone who is old, has disabilities, is a woman, or any other typically less knowledgable class of person comes for help with their 2ND most epen$ive a$$et.
How many comments do you see saying "gee, I wish I had someone like Ray I could trust on my vehicle where I live" huh?
Woah?! Another YouTuber making multiple channels?! Feels bad.. hope things get better for you.
I remember my friend went to firestone and get a oil change his 2005 toyota corolla 48,000 miles and they told him he need change the rear struts cuz is leaking and the estemate around $650 and he said let me think about it. When he get home he look the strut he found out they spray a w-40…they try to sell 😎😎🙂😎
The boot tear is not an issue until the joint actually fails. Can go years like that. Had a nail in the center of the tire treads and the tire shop (national brand) said they don't patch but will sell me a new tire. Told them I bought 3 sets of tires from them but never again. I know see they have closed shop.
