Always cite your sources! Massive thanks to the websites chinacarhistory.com and carnewschina.com which have an extensive library of articles and pictures about many of the cars shown in the video!
250 car companies in China. Like the US in the early 20th century.
It feels a little wrong to not mention the massive loss of life, cultural and industrial impact caused by βthe five year planβ and βthe Great Leap Forwardβ. I understand this is a car history video, and not a political one, but it definitely had an impact on the economy and the car industry. Overall I love your videos, and China is a very tough topic to talk about, I think you did a great job.
I had no idea that the Chinese auto industry produces more units than the rest of the world! But one has to wonder, are they all 3-wheel mopeds or something?
CHINA (Asia) is the Future. The Wave of the Future. The west is F***ed. Too Bad. So Sad. hahaha
the first truck is a 100 percent copy of the 1949 American International KB series of truck i owned one in seventies
I hope a stupid fucking spam bot replies to my comment
Shanghai was not made by FAW but SAIC
Why not do what China does with everything it manufactures already ?. Make the exact same product as your competitor with your own logo. In other words steal OP through ignoring copyright. Expect to then use same copyright laws to bully legit businesses . Dont get me wrong i have no answers ! Just a love for Chinese auto.
Damn i love that current punk scene in Hong Kong.!
Communist "Creations" is when a communist steals the better capitalist design… And makes it worse, and also kills a half million people.
7:30 Gotta give proper credit for the Dragon hood ornament.
Love your chanel brother. Greg fall city wa usa. Brother
FASCINATING! The whole history of Chinese cars has always been murky and confusing due to the sercretive nature of that industry. In terms of technology, they were greatly behind the West and recently, I was surprised to learn that the first Hong Qi was really an Imperial imported and then modified with handcrafted panels, etc. My perception is that any Chinese car of quality was an imported vehicle that was modified, and that the awkward-looking vehicles with appalling panel fit were homegrown attempts. Honestly, a car industry in China really was more an effort in pride as in "we can do that too", but in reality, the country did not have the road infrastructure, the middle class with disposable income, or perhaps the need for personal travel that couldn't be addressed by public transit. In the US, it is obvious that the car companies fought decent public transportation in order to promote the "need" for a car. Don't get me wrong, I love cars with a passion, but much of that is due to the conditioning courtesy of Detroit designers and New York advertisers. China has an excellent opportunity to up its game with a significant transition to EVs as these are much less sophisticated vehicles than ICE cars. The current Chinese automotive industry would never have attained the quick success of Japan or South Korea without requiring joint ventures to build vehicles as those two countries did.
Not sure where you are from (You sound Russian to me) and I do not want to offend your country of origin, but I wanted to mention that I saw a U.S.S.R. exhibit at Expo 86 in Vancouver in August 1986, and it showed a lot of rather hideous Soviet cars. I've also seen Soviet cars in Russian movies made in the 1970s, but this is all I know about them.
I would like to see a video on Soviet cars, perhaps as a part of Communist Car Creations. How do Chinese cars compare with Soviet (and Russian) cars? I believe I also saw Czech and Polish cars at Expo 86 as well, and what I remember from them looks a bit like some of the Chinese Communist cars.
AMAZING
For real, I feel bad for those who live in a Communist Country…
Just a hint: in western translitteration of Chinese language, "Q" is more or less equivalent to English "J" (while "J" is approximately the French "J".)
Have you ever heard the story of Hong Kong Charlie? This was told to me by someone who worked in garages and body shops in Vancouver Canada in the sixties.
He said this Hong Kong Charlie went around buying up cheap used cars. He had certain requirements. They had to be full size American four door sedans or four door hardtops, all the glass and chrome had to be intact. He didn't care if they were rusty, he didn't even care if they ran.
He gathered up a large number of such cars and once a year loaded them on a ship bound for China. They would anchor outside the 3 mile limit where they would be met by a Chinese ship. One by one the cars would be transferred from one ship to the other. For each car the captain handed over a wad of US dollars.
These cars were taken to China to special workshops where the bodies were repaired and repainted, always black, interiors reupholstered, motors overhauled as necessary, new tires fitted etc. They were then issued to important government officials as official transport.
I don't know how much truth there was to this story. I got it from one man and have not been able to confirm it. I pass it along for what it is worth.
Great video, don't ever say qw-ing again.

@ Ed – I would have to say that you did a great job for giving us a quick Chinese auto industry history presentation. Haven't seen anyone done this before. You are also entertaining . πKeep up the good work !
I have a couple of Toyotas and a Suzuki bike. WHen I'm ready for new vehicles, I will only look at Chinese EVs
Me as an Indonesian: we also a liberal democracy and capitalisic government but still we most don't own car, even a cheap Honda motorcycle is till a luxurious thing. So, what the point of this "China Bad" campaign?
You expect countries from the East that have devastated by Nazi and Japan to be on pace with colonizers in the West. Are you still have a single brain cell there?
I seriously got a BYD commercial when I clicked on this video
We don't hear anything about their cars because they are (outside India) the very worst cars made in the ENTIRE world, and that's not even counting Russian junk.
Now I will start watching this mostly crazy video.
Do π·πΊπ History π
China's civil war was already happening when the Japanese invaded in the 1930s. Communist and Nationalist forces had to try and cooperate to fight the Japanese. Many times, they wound up fighting each other while also fighting the Nips.
The point is, the Chinese civil war did not break out "after WWII." It was ongoing through WWII.

I buy plenty of electronics that were made in China from western design that function well however saying the China is number one in automobile production is laughable and comparing their electric cars to Tesla is also comical.
Some day they might have a vehicle that rivals the one's made in the western world or south Korea and Japan but as of today that has yet to have happened.
