The easiest project is one with no constraints and no budget. The true badasses in the business are the ones who are able to somehow make chicken salad out of the chicken shit the company gives them. John is truly exceptional at his craft.. so happy that Adam has brought him to our homes to take it all in. Cheers!
tfw 4 banger in a cadillac
My parents bought one of these and I ended up having to drive it in High School John!
If he'd gotten his clean sheet design out in '83 or 4, it would have stolen a lot of the Taurus's thunder. But by then, the gas crisis was over, and people wanted more power than what was available '80-2. I think the German companies paid or extorted American magazines to dump on the Cimarron when every new Cadillac appeared for the next 30 years.
The second design looks like a inital Opel Senator study?
It looks like a overpriced Chevrolet celebrity
The brochure reads: Cimarron by Cadillac
GM gave him chicken crap and he had to try to turn it into chicken salad.
Maybe this car could have sold better if it was branded as a lower end brand car
Cimmaron.
Versailles.
Both of them made me giggle when they were released. I understand the suits demanded a quick job and with just new clips front and back. But the result was just comical.
Compared to Chryslers adaptation of the J Body Into a credible Imperial, GM and Ford’s efforts were laughable.
Just had a JAWB.
If the Cimarron had sold better would Cadillac have turned to the Chevette for the next Cadillac?
I actually liked the Cimarron then and now. I've never owned one, but I would!
DESIGNERS "WANTED" A DREAM! THEY GOT A FANCY CHEVY CAVALIER THAT WAS NOTHING BETTER!
The Cavalier was the original, the Cimarron was a knockoff of it.
There is one for sale right now for 6500 out in CA
I'm so tired about hearing about deadlines in this business. The car should never have had the Cadillac emblem on it
The Cimmaron was one of the biggest pieces of shit EVER!!!!
Is that why it looks like a Vauxhall Cavalier with different headlights and grill?
Here is a link to the Big Car video about the Vauxhall Cavalier https://youtu.be/crK5r7pC1as
You will also notice the Cimmarron is mentioned in the video.
I just looked at Cimarron review earlier not a bad looking car was Skyhawk, Sunbird and Cavalier clone just had luxury wanna be badge. When was little thought this was the ugliest car ever never knew loved the 80s Cavalier learned in my teenager years was the "Cavalier Clone" later years think was replacement of Catera than that model was replacement of the CTS.
I put Cimarron insignia on my 2010 CTS. It's gotten some strange looks 🤣
Anyone dumb enough to spend caddy $$ on this cavalier deserved what they got!
Always thought it was cool to get a Cadillac with a stick shift. The Cimarron was the first Caddy in decades with a manual transmission
A Chevy with leather seats and wheel covers….people were not fooled
If only they could supply those initial drawings and get what they wanted, then it would not have been such a turd. (But nearly everything was)
They did what they could and a pretty good job based on the limitations. I remember wanting one in those days.
In 2000 I bought a 1986 Cimarron for $550.00. I drove it 7 years! Had it for 13 years. I'd have another. I Loved it. I saw the first year model Cimarron in the show room. I liked it then!
Ummm give me the whole episode now
His sketches remind me of the last generation of El Dorado in the two door version. The four door version reminded me of the Olds Aurora. This is fascinating and a great look into automotive history
It looks like an upscale old Cavalier
2 basic things were wrong with the Cimarron, in my view: it looked too much like a Cavalier and used that car's engine(s). The Sunbird had an OHC engine but they kept the OHV engine for the Cadillac? And it looked like silver painted pieces on the front of the Chevy were plasti-chromed on the Caddy…NOT HOW TO TURN A PIG'S EAR INTO A SILK PURSE.
My idea for a Cimarron if they were shooting for a BMW-stlye car: make it a 2 door coupe, spend money on a dual OHC head for the Pontiac engine, give it exclusive paint colors and interior fabrics. Stop making a better Chevy as a Cadillac.
And F#$K dealers wants, build a car for customers.
Will be waiting
The " blue sky " sketch looked pretty cool, a 4 door Beretta. That car with the V6 or a DOHC 4 would have been exciting.
New subscriber here and I love your channel! What’s ironic is the Cimarron is actually considered a cool car by more and more people. I wouldn’t be embarrassed driving one at all.
Eternal battle at GM, the Engineers and Designers VS. Bean Counter management.
When this came out, there was not any loaded small cars with leather interior.. everyone I talked to that had one ,liked it.
if they just have went with the european designfor the Cimarron that was launched the previous year it allready looked dated when it was launched
I really liked these cars
We had the same looking Cavalier which was the perfect size but lacked the finer appointments
Amazing and interesting ! The last drawing made me think about the Chevrolet Beretta.
It was a nice little car, but given the development time frame and it's origins Cadillac really squandered a great opportunity.
They should have not brought out a Cavalier in disguise that would further taint the already rotting image of Cadillac. GM was run by overpaid imbeciles
