When will we see more of this beautiful car? The lambo is dope for sure but I would love to know where this project is going 🙂
Hi Mat. I had a problem with an ECU a few years ago. £700 for a replacement and nobody was prepared to check or look at the ECU. I gave it to a TV repair man as a last resort. He checked it and found that somebody had put the wrong polarity to it. It burnt out 15mm of track and blew a transistor. He resoldered the track and replaced the transistor. No other damage to ECU because the blown transistor prevented the current travelling any further. Total cost….£13.50…..brilliant.

liberty walk it 😍😍
Mat thanks for this, more updates on this one please!
I had the 628 version in the late 80s and it was manual and silver metallic, fabulous car to drive and look at, miss her so much BUT the old maggot was setting in as you see here so sold and bought a 325i that I still run from 1999.
I was told many years later that right hand drive 628s were rare, don't know about that but still miss her no doubt!
Well done matey, keep up the great work!
You get a like for that class reversing 😂
I live in Chicago suburbs, over the years it seems like german cars rust fast.
Now drive it to the Junkyard.
I'm a newer subscriber but I've always loved those E24s. It is so 1980s. You might be able to get that old ECU rebuilt – it's always handy to have that as a spare on the shelf, should the eBay find one give up, as it is a 30+ year-old part! You'd be surprised the amount of 1980s electronics that can be rebuilt.
I bought a chicken farm find E46 330i few days ago for 2000$. Now making full restoration as well 😂
Great project and looking forward how you will go in with it. You were very optimistc by buying a car witch stood fpr a long time and also others failed with it. When you bring it back you are absolutely genius. By the way the 80s music fitted perfect 😂
Hey I'm really glad you're doing an old car too. In 1995 I bought a 1976 BMW 2002tii in bright yellow. Heavy but quick. I drove it on Castle Comb and was featured in a classic car magazine. I had lots of mods done to it in Hastings but the monthly running and repairs were more than my mortgage. It broke down too often and I had a baby at the time and needed something problem free so I replaced it with a Sierra. Now I drive a mk2 AUDI TT. That baby is now 29 and can drive my TT. She lives in Berlin. And BTW I was one of the first people to ever drive a TT in Bavaria at the factory and in the countryside around Munich.
The 70's CSis were super cool! I remember the 80's ones on the road all over the place.
He Matt nice a car that was new when I was young , I think you should rebuild the original motor because its bomb proof looking forward to more of this
It is to me the peak of BMW design, that sharp front end is so beautiful.
disconnecting water hoses and draining down is sometimes done on cars that are stored in winter to save buying anti-freeze
Awesome mate
a friend of mine's dad designed this car – paul Bracq – it is a thing of beauty – glad you took on this project
I’m sure you do, but I really hope you check the oil before cranking it?
What’s happened to this car Matt
I had same issue with the ECU! Spent hundreds for sensors coil and etc. and just then found out that was faulty ECU…
Love this project
Well done young man, you are good with these problems and now the beast is alive. When it is finished I would love to get a ride in it because I had a heap of fun in those cars when they first came out. Whenever we got a new model in we always liked to find out how fast they were, so we found a good piece of tarmac and went for it, I really can't remember how fast that thing went out of the box, I have a feeling it was in the 145, 150 mph area. My Renault 10 Gordini was the car that I loved, it was light and quick and pissed all over RS Escorts in the day!
I am little suprised by your tactics on starting a neglected car.. no oil change beforehand? No change of sparkplugs or smth? Usually before starting such cars you should oil the cylinders as well…
finally a more "affordable" car.
You content is cool
Can you give it to me?
The 635CSi was one of BMW's finest hours (the M635 even more so…) 😊👍
Still the best looking BMW imo
Awesome video, thank you
Man, you hit the nail on the head when fairly early on you mentioned how desirable they were in their time. I was 16 in the mid 80s when they were brand new and the M6 ranked with a 911 3.2 or Ferrari 328 – whose performance it matched. In those days, to own and drive a BMW REALLY meant something so while Porsche and Ferrari nowadays sound leagues ahead of BMW, that wasn't the case back then, especially with the 6 series. Also, although Ferrari was more exotic still, it really was considered niche, too, because well, being the 80s, they felt like they were made out of old Coke cans, interiors made of Lego, electrics so fragile you only had to look at them wrong and something would go pop….so, while interesting if you saw one, everyone knew it was just too much of a prima donna.
To be fair, the M635CSi had 90% of what the M6 had and was therefore ultra desirable. I am an old fogey and for sure sound like one but it's only to try to even give a hint of the difference in how they were viewed then – compared to what BMW is today – still a nice car but basically anyone can have one for three grand down and 299squid a month…finance didn't really exist back then – people knew you were RICH if you drove one but not in the annoying way that so many in that equivalent position today are😆
want to see more of this car!
probably better to turn the engine over by hand on a car that's been stood for years and pour a drop of oil down the bores before hitting it with the key. don't want to potentially damage any rings or worse. i always liked these, a friend has one and another friend had the 628. proper cars.
Car 10/10
FILMING 1,5/10
try FRITZ BITZ here in Somerset they know everything about the E24 ,and quite a bit about BMWs in general.
Progress report on this please Matt
I have had two E28, 528i's from the early to mid 80's, the fuel pump relay was an big issue. There was a Vauxhall relay supplied by Lucas that was an identical match. Then on the 2nd car I bought the Bosch relay from the dealer and that lasted 5 months, they said it was a faulty batch!! you can hardwire the contacts, but that's so wrong as the fuel pump will always be running, got me home in a fix though!!
Lol
BMWs. Here we are, my hometown , where they are from! Call when you visit Munich. BMW forever. What a legend. e24.
Restore it to original mint condition. It doesn't like modifications. The only one more beautiful than this one is the M 635 Csi.
Mat what's the story with this one?? After the 2002 this is my favorite BMW, make it happen buddy!!!
best one yet
Best channel on YouTube by a mile
Mat I'm a recent subscriber and am so glad I discovered your channel your enthusiasm is so infectious! You are so upbeat that people want you to succeed. Really enjoying the classic BMW build!
"One more old bmw can't harm us" suuurree 😂
I love all the 80s music ha ha. Awesome.
What a classic! My favourite BMW of all time, especially the M635CSi version
The look on your face when the car finally turned over… Priceless! Keep up the good work make 👍
Was wondering if you want to sell this car? By the way Great video
