LOL! I lost count how many times you said "hopefully" and "however". Yes, the I6 may have been improved, but I can't bring myself to compliment BMW now. I don't believe BMW didn't know about the potential points of failure on the I6 engine. Now, after years of generating repair revenue from their faulty design, some will reward BMW with a new car purchase or lease. For me, I don't think so. It's hard for me, regardless how spirited the car might be, to have much enthusiasm for a brand that typically treats their customers as human ATMs.
Personally, I’d love to drive a BMW 3 but as a track car or rent one. But not own one due to the costs to repair them
noooooppe.. I just walked out of the BMW dealer.. not happening. We got a 2023 Acura MDX .. best SUV in the world
I don’t get it… what does the Japanese understand that the Europeans don’t when it comes to designing/making a product?!
Essentially, just don’t drive these without warranty
BMW died for me after 2006….
Definitely more reliable than other bmw engines, but still unreliable when compared to other manufacturers
I spent about 3 years in the bmw community, talked to people on Bimmerforum daily. The only time i would get a German luxury car is when i can swap to a brand new car every 5 years. After that 5 years mark, they are just a huge repair bill nightmare. I believe their business model is designed this way too. want a comfortable, luxurious car with reliability? Get the Asian counterpart brands.

At least you can repair BMW gas engines. Electric vehicles are disposable since the battery pack costs $20K.
Quick correction: the timing chain assembly on the b58 is on the BACK of the engine.
BMW used to make very strong engines
Christ you just made me regret my purchase of my new X5 :(. Next car will be an electric vehicle no question about it. Despite being a hobby mechanic myself I just like the peace of mind reliability and simplicity of Electric drive trains. The days of gas guzzlers are numbered and I hope it dies off for good soon. In the meantime I will enjoy bmw’s final I6 engine.
should I buy the m240i or m340i in Toronto, I plan on keeping the car for 9 to 10 years and drive around 150000 km
What about b38 engine? Why nobody actually talk about this engine?
No BMW has not built a reliable engine yet…. because they are still building engines that leak, overheat and catch fire! THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE! HA!
BMW has been blowing engines since the 70s…they are experts! this is why they are not and will never be in F1…they simply do not have the engineering know how!
Great info and so far so good with my 2020 B58 engine.
I'm really happy with my 05 325i I changed so many parts on it n it runs great,
I feel that I'm a perty good mechanic now for my bmw, some day I'd like to get my motor completely torn apart n back together but that's more than I'm experienced
Can I put a b58 in a 05 325i?
I thought B58 was the most reliable and was planning on buying xdrive40i…now I'm rethinking!
BMW crap is coming soon to a Jag near you. I hope existing F-Types stay below a few hundred K. I can’t see spending more on a daily.
Stop talking so fast! FFS 😂
Give me a headache mate!
Can you comment on new S68 engine?
You bought the first production year of the n54
Everything when it first comes out has its issues
Not just bmw has first year problems
I have a 2008 N54 with 240,000 miles on the ORIGINAL engine (its all factory, no modifications) and i have NOT had ANY of the issues you have claimed, the waste gate rattle is the only thing ive seen and bmw took care of that issue under a recall i belive, even when they rattle they still make boost
the N54 is definitely one of bmw’s most reliable and durable engines ever built.
Now i also have another 2008 N54 with 90,000miles thats been modified and making 5xx wheel horse power, just to put it out there that it wasent just lucky i got 1 of the “good” motors that held together
Also have a 2017 b58 and that things more than reliable, no such thing as oil leaks or coolant leaks
Granted it has 17,000 miles but i wouldent hesitate to buy a 2nd one of those as well and modify it
The n54 and b58 are in alot of the lower model NON M cars
There great for the consumer that doesent have ALOT of money for “m” cars but still wants to have fun and powerful
Doing all the “homework “ on the engines even if i had all the money in the world the n54 and b58 would be my GO-TO
The real unreliable motors that id like to see you review…
The n55 , That had more issues than the 54
But that was also a new platform of a single twin scroll turbo
I have seen alot more oil leaks on a n55 significantly, i can say ive seen all your claims about an n54 on a n55 , coolant leaks , oil leaks from Literly everywhere from valve cover to head gasket to oil pan
Vanos issues
Injector problems
Fuel pump
Way more common for n55
The s65 v8 in the e90 series m3 (rod bearings, vanos FOR SURE!!, random evap problems, o2 sensor problems, rear differential snapping and dropping the rear differential on the ground… )
S85 v10 in the E60 m5 that you own (Same rod bearing issues)
S55 inline 6 twin turbo from the F80 series cars like the M2, M3,M4, X3M and some others
Now these right out of the factory had these issues
(Crank hub either rotating 120 degrees or completely snapping off Thats a $4,000 job alone and when it actually rotates or snapps you float every single intake valve and now need a head job for $10,000 More common with the automatic but it wasent shy to share with manuals either , next issue was the engine oil cooler position Was in the front of the car in the middle laying down, rocks tended to kick up and pierce through and then you loose all your oil and now the whole motors junk…)
Now for the S63 4.4L twin turbo v8
Worst design in history? Probably
If you actually read this im just telling my story of experience, research and owner ship
While also expressing my opinion
I like the channel and your videos
just seems like your underplaying the n54 and b58
Thanks for video, what about the new N63 Tu4 M car still had same issue?
Get an X5 45e, you'll use the electric motor, potentially not filling the tank too often since the electric range is 31-34 miles. Also you extend the life of the internal combustion engine using it less. I find it very refined.
You must have lost your sponsorship from BMW. I remember this guy was saying how good the B58 is a bullet prof. Wow now it bad. Can't trust this guy.
Apart from the timing chain fix, all else appear to be regular maintenance with time given the climate extremes that affect some materials. Im happy with my current and its my 5th
